  • So many fans don't understand why there are weight classes.

I often hear people say that there are weight classes because of size difference. That's totally moronic. Felix Trinidad is 5'11, Mike Tyson is 5'10. They both punch the same. The reason there are weight classes is that the heavier you are, the easier it is for you to take a punch.

225 Pound Tyson can take a punch better than 160 Pound Trinidad. It's not because Tyson can 'outmuscle' or 'size' Trinidad, but because his chin is better due to size.

Anthony Joshua will beat Gennady Golevkin because Joshua's chin is 10 times better. Gennady will literally have to hit him 10 times to have the same effect as punching say Canelo once. In terms of actual power, it's the same thing. Joshua punching you in the face is the same as Mayweather if both punches were thrown at the perfect angle. You will be knocked out.

It's that the higher you go up in weights the better your chin becomes. That's it.

The fact that Mike had a freaking tree trunk for a neck probably helped too.

The bigger you are and more you weigh the denser your bone structure is.. So yea a heavier bigger person can sustain more power and also generate more power. But GGG is the hardest hitting heavyweight.. He could KO AJ.. He just needs to jump when he throws a punch so he can connect on AJ's chin.

Size matters, but there are also those extremely hard-headed fighters in every weight class like Yoshihiro Kamegai and Oliver McCall who can get hit with sledgehammers and never stop coming forward.

You're saying Trinidad punched the same as Tyson and Mayweather the same as Joshua?

Exactly. I've also heard the silly reasoning that there should be no weight classes and everyone should Fight everyone. Which is ridiculous, because do high school teams play againt NFL teams? Of course not.

Not only does the heavier man take a punch better on average but they hit harder as well.
