Golovkin will set the pace of this fight. I don't think Canelo is going to walk towards Golovkin. Canelo will hang on the ropes and hope to effectively counterpunch Golovkin. That's Canelo's MO. The only difference is he will have Gennady working behind the jab with a pounding at a level that Canelo hasn't experienced from his other opponents. The big question is will Canelo be able to take it and go the distance. If he can he has a shot at a decision. If not well we all know the rest.
The key to Canelo/GGG will be the pace.

Something I've consistently been seeing, which is a legit point, is whether or not Canelo can take Golovkin's punches. The thing with Triple G tho is that it doesn't matter whether you stay standing. He is very capable of creating cuts with his punches. Even if Canelo doesn't go down, if G ends up creating a cut on Alvarez, who knows what could end up happening.Comment

I agree with the jabbing clinic but not sure it will turn into a brawl unless GGG allows it. Canelo doesn't have the ability to do anything different when he's being outboxed. The Lara and Floyd fights suggest that when faced with a jab he can't get past, he just accepts his fate and lets it go to the cards and hopes for a corrupt decisionComment

Good points, I really think the jab will be the key for GGG. I expect him to throw jabs all night. Not sure about that. From what I've seen, when punches are flying at GGG he tends to shell up and try to pick them off rather than counter a lot. If Canelo pushed the action he could have GGG stalling offensively. I think GGG sets the pace though with the ramrod jab and walks Canelo down all night and uses a body attack to break him eventually. Canelo is going to land some big shots himself though as GGG comes in. If GGG can take those punches easily then Canelo is toast. The Canelo bodywork will decide if he's in this fight going into the later rounds. He's gotta slow GGG down from walking inComment

What power? Let's get real. He can hit all the Khans in the world and the washed up fighters.
He doesn't really move well, so I think Glolovkin won't have to chase him too much loosing strength and stamina in the process.
Can Canelo take Golovkin's punches? I don't think so.
One shot to the liver and Canelo will go down around the 7-8. If he lasts so long.

Right, but Canelo is better than those guys you mentioned. And we have seen Golivkin freeze up in moments when getting tagged several times, he's also ripe for a good counter puncher. I will say that Canelo will have to not just slow down the pace but up his activity and keep the fight close to the middle of the ring. No easy tasks.GGG is not going to slow down just because Canelo hits him with some hard punches to the head or body or both. GGG has fought punchers like Stevens, Lemieux and Jacobs before and he doesn't slow his pace for them. He has never been knocked down as an amateur or a pro and he takes hard punches very well. I think he will set his normal fast high pressure pace, coming forward and throwing bombs to head and body. Canelo will have to deal with GGG's hard attack as best he can because he won't be able to slow him down. No one has yet.Last edited by _original_; 09-03-2017, 11:33 AM.Comment

Golovkin is definitely the puncher here. I was shocked that Canelo never made a dent on the smaller, older Cotto who came forward all night. What power? Let's get real. He can hit all the Khans in the world and the washed up fighters.
