"It's what I want, the Mayweather fight. That's what we put on the table. I feel more mature and for that I am willing to go down to 150-pounds," Alvarez said in a Boxing Scene interview.
Why did Floyd Mayweather demand a catch-weight before he fought Canelo?

no one forced oscar & canelo to fight floyd at 152, they had nothing to risk because losing to floyd won't hurt his career too much. they wanted the fight at 152, not floyd because he could still fight at ww easily why move up to 154?Comment

Canelo weighed 153 his previous fight, so his team proposed 152 to ensure they got the deal done as it's the most money Canelo had ever made.

"Moving up" is so misguided since Floyd was already a 154 Champ beating Oscar and Cotto. That has nothing to do with Floyd stream rolling 147.
Ellerbe said it himself, "Alvarez did that to himself, saying he could do 152." Not that Alvarez wanted to. Why would TMT do any favors to GBP to make it at 154 after Alvarez failed on his bluff. That's the point Ellerbe insinuated.
Would Nelo beat Floyd at 154? Most likely not, but let's be honest, Floyd could've easily said, "I'll do GBP the favor and still whoop their fighter's ass." Floyd had the recognition for talking such thingsComment

With Oscar eating his own cake losing to PAC at 145... do you think GBP advisory was gun-ho for a 152 fight? As others had said. GBP shït themselves in their own foot. 152 or no fightComment

That's a lie. Floyd demanded he come down or no fight and then told the Canelo camp to be quiet about it and pretend the weight was their idea for the promotion
"I'll tell you the truth of what happened," Alvarez said in Spanish through translator Eric Gomez. "Why would I give up the weight? I'm at 154. I'm the 154-pound champion. I wouldn't do that. But when the (fight) negotiations started, they wanted me to go to 147. I said that's physically impossible. I couldn't do it. Then they inched up to 150. I said I can't do it, that's impossible. Those days are over. I can't make that weight anymore, I've grown.
"Then they went up to 151. And then finally, so we could make the fight, I said, 'If anything, I'll give up two pounds. I'll go up to 152. I agreed to that. Then they tried to force me to be quiet and not to mention anything that they came up with the weight of 152. And that's why ... I haven't said anything until now."Comment

Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions says that the catch-weight fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was fair because the two of them agreed to fight at the mid-point between 147 and 154, and De La Hoya sees Canelo being faster at 152 rather than 153 the weight he weighed in at for his fight with Austin Trout last April.
De La Hoya said to laceupboxing.com “You’re going to see a Canelo like no other. Canelo had no problem making 154 for Trout. At 152, he’s going to be faster. It [the catch-weight] was only fair. Mayweather wanted 147 and Canelo wanted 154. It was fair to meet right in the middle.”
A few things about De Hoya’s comments here: First off, Canelo weighed in at 153 for his last fight against Trout; he didn’t fight Trout at that weight. Canelo rehydrated to 172, which is 19 pounds heavier than what he weighed in at.

Although the catchweight is at 152, ESPN The Magazine's Pablo S. Torre recently documented what Alvarez's longtime trainer Ronnie Shields had to say with regard to his fighter's weight. Shields claims that Alvarez may tip the scales at 152 but will be 12 pounds heavier when the showdown gets under way.
"It's bull to say he's going to be weight-drained. He'll be fine...and be 164 when the fight goes off," said Shields.

Canelo Unapologetic About Fighting Chavez at Catch-Weight
The 26-year-old Alvarez also noted that while Chavez is coming down to fight at a weight he hasn’t reached in nearly five years, this fight represents real risk for him, too. Alvarez hasn’t fought at a contracted weight higher than 155 pounds during his 11½ -year pro career, 9½ pounds lower than the Chavez fight
Alvarez made Amir Khan fight him at a catch weight as well. England’s Khan (31-4, 19 KOs), a natural welterweight, technically moved up two weight classes (one division and one pound) for his 155-pound WBC middleweight title fight against Alvarez, in which Alvarez scored a spectacular sixth-round knockout last May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las VegasComment
