He didn't. Canelo's team suggested 152 before the fight was signed.

They were even saying 152 is a perfect weight because he will maintain speed.

        No.

As I remember, Canelo wanted the fight at 154.

To weaken Canelo a bit and neutralize much of the size disparity.

Either way, their team were very happy with it at 152.

              Canelo's words on fight week:

“I've been able to make the weight in the past without a problem,” Alvarez said. “In fact, in my most recent fights I've been under on the day of the weigh-in. I really don't do that much work, so I think that it's going to be fine. I feel very, very good right now, and in fact, I think it's going to help me. I'm going to be a lot faster.”

Canelo said that because he's a courageous ring warrior, but we could see he was weight-drained.

                  Because he could.

Since then Canelo has invented his own division, called Canelo-weight, also because he could.

Thats what boxers in power do.

because floyd is 40 and still could easily fight at 147. he only weighed 149.5 vs mcgregor 4 years after the canelo fight. when you are 36 fighting a 23 years old who is much bigger than you a 152lbs catchweight is more than fair. but i'm not a fan of catchweights tbh, didn't like it when pacquiao did it either. u will never get the full credit if u win. but i don't think canelo looked drained, mcgregor looked like a zombie during weigh-in, he clearly had trouble making 154.
