Comments Thread For: Sanchez: Canelo Has More Wear & Tear on His Body Than Golovkin

Gennady Golovkin’s age and supposed slippage is one of the primary storylines entering his showdown with Canelo Alvarez next month. The Kazakh knockout artist turned 35 a few weeks after Daniel Jacobs became the first fighter in Golovkin’s 11-year pro career to take him 12 rounds. Some suspect that the unbeaten middleweight champion’s performance against Jacobs was as much an indication that he’s not the same fighter he was a few years ago as much as it was a testament to Jacobs’ ability to make their fight difficult for Golovkin.

Which isn't a bad thing. Larry Holmes rarely looked cut and I think it helped him absorb body shots and counter intuitively his stamina.

Alvarez has participated in 51 professional fights since he made his pro debut at the unusually young age of 15 in his native Mexico.
Barrera was 15 too, they all start young there.

No wonder they wanted the fight. I see! Too bad it's gonna back fire on their asses

Only by people who want to have their excuse ready if Canelo beats GGG. It damn sure wasn't an issue when he destroyed Monroe, Wade, and Lemieux. He struggled with two elite opponents and the Canelo fight got made and now all of a sudden he's old.

Golovkin may not be prime but he's still the menacing fighter he's always been. The thing is he's fighting stiffer competition now in Brooks and Jacobs. But yes that's one stat I was looking at a while back, the fact that GGG doesn't have as much wear and tear as Canelo does.

Pacquiao also started at 15... and we're talking pro debut

if such headlines were happen, we've got good old B-Hop telling industry to revisit the decades.... and how old was the Alien when he fought Kovalev.. industry didn't use ''slippage and age'' for Bhop losing to Kova...

When you fight actual live boxers who have a pulse, sure you get a little more wear and tear.
