Does he crack into the top 5? Thoughts?
If Canelo beats GGG, where does he rank among Mexican greats?

No, he doesn't crack top 5. He is still way behind JCC, Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Salvador Sanchez, De La Hoya, Ruben Olivares, and Carlos Zarate.Comment

Yes, I would rank him higher than Vargas. Fernando had two or three good wins, but no one on the level of GGG, unless you consider Winky Wright on his level, which wouldn't be outrageous. I think Canelo is the more disciplined of the two, and more durable. Better chin and bigger puncher.Comment

He's number one now among active boxers in Mexico, if he beats GGG his place is cemented into Mexican lore. Mexican fans keep a long term outlook on fighters, if Canelo stays active and cleans out the MW division he will easily break into the Top 3 Mexican ATG's. Like Sugar Ray Robinson elsewhere Julio Cesar Chavez will always be number 1 along with Sal Sanchez 2. Depending on the rest of his career after GGG he can become number 3 and over time maybe become more popular than Sanchez particularly with younger boxing fans.Comment
