Yep. Some guys fight 44 bums before stepping up (JCC Jr.) while other guys fight 1 bum before stepping up (Lomachenko).

Holding this record is entirely dependent on how long a fighter remains at that prospect level where they fight overmatched opposition. Once a fighter reaches that championship level they start fighting 2 times a year and it becomes really hard to reach a high number of wins.

Ideally you turn pro early (18) and then spend the first 3-4 years getting 30-40 gimme fights under your belt. That way you can be 22 years old and 40-0. Then fight for 20 years averaging 2.5 fights per year and you can finish 90-0 at the age of 42.

Yeah, the way I see it, Floyd added it on the end of his career, as opposed to the beginning, and in my opinion, and in the record books, he retires 50-0 and has set the world record.

Geez, really? Rocky wasn't exactly facing a murderers row of fighters the whole time.

SOME boxing fans back then considered him what you described, but certainly not all, by a long shot. The guy was extremely popular in his day, and if you'd watch his fights, most times he did show show good boxing talent. As for the Liston story, first I heard it, but will do some research. As for how it would've turned out, they both had good boxing instincts, and both were murderous punchers. It could've gone either way.
