Canelo-
Upper body movement, handspeed and counter punching are the keys to victory I think Alvarez will focus on. He won't look to engage too early, he will be patient, precise and up his tempo the longer it goes. He will keep his back off the ropes more than he has done in recent fights and answer any attacks with his own combinations sending out a message to triple G he won't be dominated

Golovkin-
I think Golovkins gameplan will surprise a lot of people I don't see him coming out fast leading with his face and looking to mix it straight away. I see a more considered approach behind the jab, steady pressure and keeping it long. Similar to the limieux fight Golovkin will not take chances early on. As the rounds progress he will step in behind the jab more looking for a left hook to the body, cutting off the ring but not losing his composure under fire. In the late rounds his steady pressure will have turned into relentless pressure, he just has to remember to let his hands go more than he did vs Jacobs

You echo my thoughts!!! I believe Canelo would have worked on keeping his back off the ropes in training along with defense. Canelo isn't going to war and GGG isn't chasing him face first getting predictably countered.
It will be calculated for first few rounds but you don't calculate your way to victory, so am looking forward to how the fight evolves.

You echo my thoughts!!! I believe Canelo would have worked on keeping his back off the ropes in training along with defense. Canelo isn't going to war and GGG isn't chasing him face first getting predictably countered.

I just finished the first part of my GGG vs Canelo breakdown. This is just talking about how GGG wins, where he can get to Canelo.

I think the major attributes for GGG here are his jab, and his combination punching. Canelo is very open to jabs imo, he spends too much time looking to counter them and leaves himself open in doing so. GGG's jab is unlike any other that he has faced. Maybe not the most nuanced (that would have to be Money May), but certainly the hardest. I want to a 'Lemieux fight' volume of jabs coming from Golovkin in this match. He has the height, maybe a bit of reach, i think he definitely has the timing.

Canelo also has slow feet and often freezes in the face of combination punching, either in the middle of the ring or when he backs himself into the ropes. GGG has some of best combinations in the world. The creativity, the power, the technique, the way he opens up different targets is all beautiful. If Canelo is as vulnerable to these attacks as he was vs Cotto and Smith, then he could be in serious trouble in this fight.

Im looking for a gameplan from GGG similar to th eLemieux fight. Not reckless, a consistent jab, pressure when you can pressure and break him down safely. If he gets gungho and crude like he has a lot recently then Canelo has plenty of skill, vicious combinations and counters of his own

I havent done my pro Canelo breakdown yet so im not 100% on his plan. Off my head i think GGG struggled a lot with Jacobs because he was able to punch with him and didnt cover up in the exchanges. That has to be a part of his plan to stop GG freely marching forward.

GGG often drops back in the face of combinations from his opponent and has very little countering ability to keep them honest. Jacobs, Lemieux, Stevens, even WW Brook and featherfisted Murray were able to back him up and land good shots. The key is to follow him when he retreats and keep the attack going. His defence on the backfoot is not great.

Canelo also needs to pivot around GGG rather mmoving too laterally. He doesnt have quick feet so he needs to maximise the effect of what movement he does have by moving round GG in tight circles after throwing his own shots. He did this brilliantly vs Angulo. Angulo would step in (with no jab, and slowly it must be said) and Canelo would light him up with a combination before stepping round the side and forcing Angulo to retreat.

Really interesting match up. Both have weapons to hurt the other.

If I had to pick now, right after doing a pro GGG breakdown, I would go with Golovkin.

Absolutely. I dont think either has a good enough defence to nullify the others offence. With all the build up and the atmosphere i think this will be a hell of a night.

You said Murray is feather-fisted, which he definitely is, but comparing to Canelo, can Canelo possibly have all that much power than Murray, seeing that Murray is a lot bigger? Doesn't seem likely.
