Its simple, you need to be active to sharpen up after a bout of long inactivity, this is why andre ward came back to fight 2 nobodies, that's two camps spent on sharpening up. Thinking about it more, you do forget or neglect some things after an absence, which you should eventually be reminded of after some time drilling/practicing/sharpening.
Fighters are rusty after time off, this has been seen numerous times despite a training camp, but it does depend on the fighter the degree.Comment

Stuff like this just makes me laugh. Floyd fights Oscar, Mosley, and they where under 40 and they say Floyd got them when they were old. But that same thing does not apply to floyd. A 31 year old floyd could take a year off and demolish a world champion like Marquez.People need to stop harping on the 2 year layoff like it means anything. Someone with 20 years of boxing knowledge and experience doesn't just forget how to do something just because they haven't fought in two years. It's not even the first long layoff Floyd has come back from before.
Even the 40 year-old thing is way over exaggerated.
But you expect a 40 year old with with the longest lay off of his career to not have some type of ring rust or diminished skills it is humanly impossible . And even if he was active Floyd is way out of his prime but people tend to act like he is invincible and is the same fighter he was 10 years ago.Comment

The Ref's timing was spot on and instead of being macho Conor should be happy that the ref saved him the embarrassment of the horizontal ending that was seconds away.
Conor did o.k. for two rounds whilst Floyd let him and then it was as everyone thought pro against novice.
At forty Floyd would struggle with the likes of Spence and Thurman so I really hope this was the last of him.Comment
