I don't know how people can conclude that GGG was at his peak 2 years ago when he hadn't fought anyone of note then. It shouldn't come as a surprise that he wouldn't look as dominant against an opponent that has another dimension to his game like Jacobs or Brook (although he was ultimately too undersized to hang). Even against lower tier opponents a couple years back, people noticed that there might be weaknesses in his game like his defense, but his supporters swore up and down that he'd get hit on purpose (many still do). Despite being older, GGG's resume was thinner and I actually think he benefited from the experience of fighting Jacobs and Brook because it served as a reminder that he can't expect to just easily walk through opponents.

It should also be noted that team GGG were at a big strategic advantage then in terms of devising a game plan because we'd seen Canelo's strengths and weaknesses tested against top level guys with differing styles, whereas GGG had primarily fought mid to low tier opposition so there wasn't a whole lot to analyze. And financially speaking, the fight is more profitable now that GGG has been involved in higher profile fights. So all things considered, I'd say this is the ideal moment for this fight-- even though some people are trying to claim that GGG is over the hill and past prime just to discredit Canelo should he pull off the win.

This nonsense claiming ggg was at his absolute best a yr or two ago is hyperbole ******ation. Hes 35 yrs old ffs,he hadnt fought anyone or become famous enough until he used a 15 day deadline to strongarm canelo while he didn't even know who his promoter was going to be so of course couldn't sign in 15 days,esp. K2 joke promotions negotiating. Canelo barely won his title 1 yr & 3 mos before him & ggg signed to fight,but now that their fighting his fanboys wanna claim he aged someone by moving up to their division to fight them 1yr & 3 mos after winning the lineal belt,& it isnt like they couldve signed sooner as ggg has admitted he wanted more $$.

I've been reading fanboys 4 months on here claiming canelo would never fight him,that hed get killed etc. Yet these same clowns have made it clear they never wanted their mancrush 2 fight the best,they were scared shîtless of this fight happening & were saying ggg deserved more $$ etc., but now that it's happening the new phàggg excuse is he aged ggg by signing 2 fight him a yr later,Despite ggg intentionally delaying the fight thinking hes the a side, & the fight is much bigger now that ggg piggiebacked off canelos fame & more peeps actually know who he is,& its moronic 2 claim hes a different fighter today than 1.5 yrs ago just because he was exposed vs the 1st two opponents who wasn't complete nohopers.

Gggs probably a better fighter today than then because he's actually fought a good opponent now in Jacobs, he's actually gained 2 fights of actual champ experience as Ww brook & Jacobs are the 1st semi legit champs hes ever fought the rest were hobos like wade or vacant undefended beltholders like lemeiux.

The Joshua-Klitschko fight had absolutely no buzz in North America, none.

I think Golovkin-Canelo is more interesting than Ward-Kovalev II. Will the fight be better, we'll see.

Interesting or not, Kovalev-Ward was a fight between two of the top 5 p4p fighters in the sport (I'd say two of the top 3, but folks look at things differently). Canelo is a good fighter and Golovkin is a good fighter, but spectacle is still spectacle.

When did I say GGG was incapable of beating Canelo? He poses a threat to anyone with his power. GGG having a weaker resume especially then is just a basic fact. And GGG is anything but an "old man". He's a champion in his prime with more experience under his belt than 2 years ago. Whoever wins deserves full credit. No excuses.

He let the prospect of a fight between them "marinate". In other words, he stalled & waited for Golovkin to get a little older and have a couple of tough fights to soften him up a bit. This way, Ginger has a better chance of success against him. At least that what Oscar hopes. Personally, I think GGG will still starch Canelo and cement himself as one of the baddest mofos in boxing.

I didn't say it wasn't interesting, I just said I think this fight is more interesting since we haven't seen them mix it up. I also think their styles are better suited for a more interesting/exciting fight. These guys are going to get the type of opponent they should do best against.
