Comments Thread For: Canelo: Can't Base Everything on Sparring Sessions With Golovkin

Canelo Alvarez vividly remembers his sparring sessions with Gennady Golovkin, long before anyone expected to them to meet in this huge middleweight title fight. There are things Alvarez learned about Golovkin that can help him both in preparation and the fight itself. Alvarez also knows that they're both very different fighters today than when they began sparring in the spring of 2011 at the gym owned by Abel Sanchez, Golovkin's trainer, in Big Bear Lake, California.

There you go for a you Triple g nuttriders who keep saying Triple g schooled Canelo in sparring.
Canelo was 20 at the time and they both said it. It's just sparring. You can't predict anything based on sparring. So all you ****ing idiots who thinks that their sparring session matters in this fight. It don't!
It'll be a great fight that either fighter can win.

As a fan of both, Im keeping my fingers crossed that it'll be as exciting as I anticipate it to be. I dont care who wins so long as neither guy gets the ***** end of a bad decision, head clash etc. Im also hoping it doesnt go 12 but if it does i pray that the winner is clear as day with no controversy. I know im asking a lot but im optimistic.

I guess that's news to me. I've been following a lot of these Canelo/GGG threads and never read anyone claiming that GGG schooled Canelo in sparring. I agree though, even if he did it doesn't matter. That was 6 years ago.

Hopefully this fight lives up to the hype and no BS decisions or drama.

The sad thing is, as good of a fight as this should be, nobody is talking about it. The only fight in the spotlight is the crapshow of Mayweather McGreggor.

Sparring years ago means absolutely nothing...there's no context for the rounds to even begin to draw conclusions

From the quote it's sounds like they were targeted rounds. If so, they have no real value in determining superiority
