That was when the mandatory was Tureano Johnson, but Johnson got injured, so Dominic Wade was the new mandatory, and it got ordered. Al Haymon had a lot more money back then, so GGG's team knew they had to do the mandatory otherwise Haymon would win the purse bid anyway.

Now GGG's Team would win the purse bid, and Charlo would only get a small percentage, so GGG's team is in control of that situation. Plus mandatories come less frequently now because he has more belts than he had back then.

GGG never chose to fight Wade. Just like he never chose Brook. That fight was supposed to be Eubank Jr., but Eubank Jr. dropped out so Eubank Jr's promoter put Brook in to fight GGG instead.
