defensively minded, cagey, elusive, often have a shoulder roll defense. Reluctant to trade punches, instead usually land single shots as counters, lots of lateral movement, very fluid. Just cause broner isnt an elite slick fighter doesnt mean his style isnt that of a slick fighter. People dont seem to be able to understand that.
is 'the slickster' a dying breed?

What is "slick"? Is this becoming the new "aflectic"?
It appears to me that it is a stereotype used to simply describe African American fighters, of all styles but more alluding to guys like Floyd in their defensive style.
Why not just say guys who employ the philly shell?
Because if it is about being defensively minded than a lot of guys out there have great defense but I bet most wouldn't call them "slick" as in the case of Loma for example, or Usyk? Or are they slick?Comment

Boner is a Pot Shot Counter Puncher! That is ALL HE DOES LITERALLY!
Rigondeaux is slick:

A slick guy is a guy that can fluidly go from offense to defense and offense to defense. It is literally one of the hardest things to do in boxing because it is like doing two things at once and most guys have trouble doing one thing at a world class level.
Defensive guys aren't slick they are defensive, they aren't really turning defense into offense especially in a way that is tricking a professional prize fighter. Broner certainly isn't slick he is athletic with fast hands, he should be trying to get off first rather than waiting because he does not move well from defense to offense or offense to defense.
It is why a really slick guy will make a world class guy look foolish because it is really a different level and they just do stuff that is not something a guy will even comprehend.
So IF a world class fighter can be tricked and fooled by fighter, how is a fan going to really comprehend and understand other than have an open mind and try to get it not wedge it in some neat little box which is not slick at all.Comment
