PPV Prices in the USA ($60-100) vs. UK ($15-25)

Does anyone know the real reason for this price gouging? Besides the typical "Yanks are fat morons" excuse of course.

Boxing is a much more popular sport in the UK than it is in America. Both countries are very developed, yet the US typically gets charged 3-4 times the amount the UK does to watch an HD PPV.

    Why?

The fights on UK PPV are usually shit and there's lots of them.

Eubank v Abraham was PPV FFS.

Bare in mind that for the most part PPV in the UK is through Sky Sports, of which you generally already need a subscription for in the first place, which is another £30 a month.

Your one example is an outlier and ITV's first attempt at a PPV event. Sky Sports PPV are generally pretty good...

Same with HBO and Showtime though.

          I think they're subscription channels.

Anyway to answer the TS, genuinely have no idea. Lucky I guess.

No it's not. The USA is a country of over 300 million people. Do you know the last time an HBO or Showtime card had even one fight that averaged at least 1M viewers? It was April 2016, Golovkin vs. Wade.

Sure there are segments of the population where boxing has a following, primarily with Latinos, but overall, boxing is invisible in America while the UK is putting together stadium fight after stadium fight.

Not doing much to eleviate the "fat yanks are morons" stereotype are you?

I'd say it's about equally popular. The average Sky Sports show probably gets about 20% of the viewership of the average HBO show - maybe a bit more these days - which is pretty much in line with our population disparity

The difference is that any world class British athlete will get a lot of media coverage here, even if the sport as a whole is not popular, whereas Americans don't seem bothered about anyone except their NFL, NBA and MLB players

Yea thats an interesting topic. The UK is for sure a more loyal audience that you'd think they could price gouge more then they do, but idk the history of UK PPV all that much either. Maybe they were higher in the past or they played with the price & had lesser overall revenue idk. I'd be curious as to why its so much different & it could even have something to do with sponsors & other relationships like that too that doesn't exist in the US (thinking perhaps ******** sites, but could be other sh^t too). Idk mostly thinking outloud.
