To diminish Cotto's win & say that he had a hard time is just not right and i'll explain. First of all when Paulie fought Cotto he was an undefeated fighter. He was younger & felt unbeatable. His next lost a 12 rnd TKO, will be 2 years & 5 fights later against Hatton (2008), his next lost against Diaz (2009) will be 3 years & 9 fights later from his fight with Cotto. He would avenged this lost. His next lost was against Amir Khan (2010) by 11 rnd TKO, which was 4 years & 9 fights after the Cotto bout, his next lost would be against Broner(2013) by split dec, which was 7 years & 15 fights after the cotto bout, his next lost will be against Porter(2014) via 4 rnd TKO, it was 8 years & 17 bouts later, next lost with Danny Garcia(2015) via 9 rnd TKO, was 9 years & 18 fights later.

    So you see why your comparisons does not hold any weight. It's just that by the time Paulie got more loses their was more wear & tear on the body...It's elemantary my dear watson.
    i call it as i see it, i watched that fight and it was a close fight, whether hes unbeaten or not doesnt mean he was a good win, cotto struggled against a fighter who other fighters wiped the floor with, look at what hatton did to him. Im not having it that he was suddenly shot to **** two years later.

    they scored it 115-114 cotto, first article that comes up when i put that fight in. As i said i rememebr it was close and cotto definitely didnt look a class above him.

      kOOL...Call it what you want, but the true of the matter is that when you are an undefeated fighter you are unbeaten until beaten. the Fact is Paulie fought; Hatton (2 years) 5 fights after Cotto, Amir Kahn (4 years) 9 fights after Cotto, Broner (7 years) 15 fights after Cotto, Porter (8 years) 17 bouts after!, Danny Garcia (9 years) 18 fights after!

      you mentioned;
      cotto struggled against a fighter who other fighters wiped the floor with

      And this is why i'm making you see why it is not that accurate that others wiped the floor with him 4-8 years later & 9-18 fights later! That's a lot of mileage, this is not fantasy boxing nor a video game, wear & tear is real.

        Yep. Notice how he conveniently leaves out the fact that Cotto softened Malignaggi up and broke his jaw before all those other boxing legends he claims "wiped the floor" with Malignaggi.

          wasnt charles martin unbeaten before anthony joshua beat him? We now gonna say thats a good win and any subsequent losses are due to joshua softening him up? Fact of the matter is throughtout malignaggis career hes never looked an elite fighter. Its not as if he beat some killers before fighting cotto so i dont understand this narrative that he was some world class prospect that cotto derailed. Its not as if he was battered from pillar to post, or are you gonna say that was the case? I just think its another example of the level cotto was at, scraping past malignaggi, scraping past clottey, losing 119-109 on one card to trout and then losing handily to the elite fighters (Canelo, mayweather, pacquiao, margarito)

            Don't play yourself...you know I don't mean that. You could only wish to accomplish what Malignaggi has in the boxing world. Dude, when you participate in a world title, you are in the elite status as a fighter. That's world class level. Forget what you want to classify it as. He fought 6 World Champions, and fought in 11 world title fights. That qualifies anyone to be a World Class fighter

            And don't play yourself again, the Margarito loss is tainted & he was banned for a year. And the reason why they gave him leniency was because his trainer took the fall. And rightfully so, I don't believe Margo woke up in the morning & said hey load up my gloves tonight.

                fair enough im not discrediting malignaggi, was defending him when he was getting trashed in some other thread and hes had a solid career im just saying it wasnt a good performance against someone who i dont see as a top fighter, thats all man. I think cotto is overrated and you dont, so lets leave it at that bro.

                  Daggum,
                  Thank you, for you just helped me with my point.

                  Regarding Paulie, he was a natural Jr welter, so it is then after he moves up to 147 lbs that, like you mentioned they mopped the floor with him. Imagine if he didn’t have no pop in his punches at 140 lbs, he ‘s definitely isn’t gonna have anything in his punches at 147 lbs.

                  Yes Cotto was having problem with the wgt & was weight drained. Hence that was his last fight at Jr Welter (140 lbs). Coincidence…that his next fight was at 147 lbs against Quintana.

                  Excuses, yes every fighter has them…
