What's with the notion that we should root for Floyd just because he's a boxer?

Ditto and times 2. It would be a disaster for boxing and a great victory for MMA if Conor who has never boxed can beat the great Mayweather under boxing rules. Toney already embarrassed boxing with his pathetic loss to the MMA fighter under their rules. A Mayweather loss under boxing rules would be far worse. As a boxing lover 1st and an MMA lover 2nd I pray Mayweather doesn't lose. I am confident he will toy with Conor and knock him out.

Yeah I'm sure the guy all MMA fans (and now casuals) think is the best boxer ever losing to a guy who HAS NEVER BOXED PRO BEFORE is great for boxing.

If Floyd loses this might really kill boxing. This has a lot at stake. Like I said before if you are rooting for Conor then you are obviously more of an MMA fan. Either that or you are rooting for him because hes white.

I am the same exact way. I actually like MMA a lot, but boxing is my first love and I hate defending it.

If Floyd knocks Conor out it will probably be my happiest day as a boxing fan.

That's the casual perspective, boxing has been "dying" for decades because of a lack of casual appeal, and yet it's still around making money.

MMA casual fans want this to be MMA vs boxing but in reality it's Floyd vs Conor.

Even if McGregor beats an old Floyd it won't discredit boxing other than to the casual MMA fan.

Could Mcgregor beat Golovkin? Canelo? Spence? Brook? Or even Jeff Horn? Or any other younger boxer who is known for any amount pf power, or would he get his ass dominated?

If McGregor gets lucky and somehow beats Floyd he will have beaten a retired 40 year old great boxer who is known for his defensive style that doesn't get knockouts.

It would be a bad look but the casual MMA attention span is like that of an average goldfish so it wouldn't last long.

The biggest boxing fight is september 16th period

If floyd loses or if mcgregor loses and doesn't even land on floyd, people gonna start with the normal BS saying floyd ducked a real challenge for his 50-0

yeah i dont get it either. its just two men putting on gloves and having a fight, if mcgregor wins its cause hes a brilliant fighter (he wont though), its not some shame for boxing, its still a great sport to watch.

I hope Floyd gives McGregor the worst beating he's given since Gatti.

I hate Floyd, but if a disrespectful punk like Conor just walks into the greatest sport of all-time with zero pro fights and beats one of the greatest ever, you can't expect me and other boxing fans to be happy about that.

I've wanted Floyd to lose to Pac, Maidana, Marquez, and Mosley, but Maidana was a world champ, Mosley and Marquez are future hall of famers, and Pac is an ATG. Conor was barely an amateur.

I'm rolling with TMT for one night when Floyd fights McGregor.

Its not a matter of rooting.

Anyone who is a boxing fan knows how ridiculous the possibility of connor winning is.

sure you can root for him but if you know boxing you know its near impossible
