He's not that much of a household name in MMA either.
He's realllly tiny (like barely over 5 ft) and had a string of very boring fights.
I think he's held his title the longest of any of their champions though, so some formal recognition is warranted.Last edited by ////; 07-13-2017, 02:58 AM.Comment

Ward got robbed.....hehehehe, kinda funny saying that!
But out of all of fighters, Ward has the best victory in terms of opponent!
Once Ward moves up and if Kov stays at 175 we'll see how good he is!Comment

He's actually not popular at all. All of his fights are very low rated.
He's only 5'3 hence the name Mighty Mouse.
He is a monster, one of the best p4p ever, but his division is terrible...
He best two journeyman this year and just ducked a big fight with another top 10 guy. One of the worst ducks ive ever seen. So bad that Dana White is threatening to get eid of his division.
I'm shocked he got this award. He is not deserving AT ALL. It's fighter of the Year, and this year he beat two guys who are the equivalent to fringe top 10 guys in boxing.Comment

Mighty Mouse is like a video game character. He is so fast that it is entertaining to watch, but he is the size of a child and he has beaten maybe 3 guys (2 twice) who are legitimately elite fighters.Comment

Actually very few give a F about him. He is about to break the title defence record (set by Anderson Silva) but no one cares. His division is considered weak and DJ aka Mighty Mouse has the dubious position of being considered the "worst draw in UFC history".
He is imo very overrated in a p4p sense but has a very solid and well rounded skill set. He has beaten all his top contenders but stays in his division trying to break the defence record.
He is basically the most unpopular UFC champion there is except for maybe one of the female champs who no one cares aboutComment

He's not considered P4P best by fans because he's like 5ft 2 and his there is just no interest in the division
They wanted him to fight TJ Dillashaw, but he wouldn't
Instead he's fighting ... Ray Borg
Who da **** is that guy?Comment

You guys have to understand. Look at what UFC's got to work with.
The "names" all got handled and badly exposed, one by one. Cowboy Cerrone, Jose Aldo, Holly Holm, Sage Northcutt, Miesha Tate, Ronda Rousey, CM Punk, and Paige VanZant. Brock Lesnar and Jon 'Bones' Jones can't seem to stay away from drugs, Anderson Silva's over the hill, St. Pierre keeps screwing up fights, etc.
Of today's crust, Conor McGregor, the Diaz brothers, and Mighty Mouse are the biggest names as far as success, Conor is the only one who draws because he's the only one they heavily market.
The reason few know about Johnson is that UFC simply refuses to market the guy. He doesn't stand out in any way on his own, in or out of the ring.
Say what you will about WWE, they know how to take short, average-looking nobodies and make them draw worldwide money. UFC has never learned or cared how to do that.
Reminds me of guys like James Te Huna who tried to market himself despite Dana totally not on board with it. This entrance got him all sorts of mainstream exposure:
