By letter of the law he did quit but I don't judge him for it but let's call a spade a spade here he quit.

I agree with a lot of posters on here it does take a lot of balls to get in the ring but the fact is he quit. I'm not really against a fighter doing that. Why take unnecessary punishment?

I don't care what anyone says but Davies has shown a weakness here, this would be part of his history in terms of his future opponents. They would have seen this and say push him far enough and he would drown. He would have to show major guts to turn that blemish on his boxing career.

I said the same about Kovalev after watching his fight with Ward a few weeks ago, when you turn your back like they did in a fight then you show something that other boxers see and take note of.

Before you go making umpteen threads, GFs and memes about that, allow me to point something out ... Matthysse isn't a Brit. He's Argentinian and has no connection whatsoever with the UK or Eddie Hearn.

I'm not knocking them, they still have balls of steel to get in the ring and fight but neither Brook or Davies got up and showed they wanted to fight. They essentially waved the fight off themselves.

Plenty of fighters have fought on in worse circumstances. Probably foolish but they do. I don't mind if Brook or Davies quit, it's their life and their decision but let's not try to make it into something it's not. They did basically pull themselves out of the fight and it's easy to understand why that doesn't sit well with other fighters.

I can't be too harsh on fighters though. It must be difficult to stay in there and take a beating if you don't need to and feel there's no way back into the fight. It's just certain other fighters won't ever settle for that and will believe they can still win.

Ohara literally turned his back, shook his head. he didnt want to get hit anymore.
It's literally the definition of quitting mate

Of course Brook and Davis quit. The point I'm making is that many, many fighters have quit, but didn't get labelled as quitters because they didn't do it openly.

If Martin hadn't sat up, looked at the ref and shook his head during the count .. if he'd just stayed down, or gotten up too slowly to beat the count, or gotten up in time but just stood there looking blank when the ref told him to raise his gloves ... he wouldn't have been called a quitter, just another victim of AJ's KO power.

Similar thing with Davis .. he'd taken a lot of punishment, more than most fighters could have taken. If he'd stayed down after the second KD, or gone down again when Taylor jumped back on him with more hard punches, he wouldn't be getting called a quitter.
