So nobody seen kov fighting dirty hitting in the back of the head huh
While holding and throwing punches they both hit each other at the back of the head, I did not see it be intentional for either fighter... Ward was the one initiating the holding for the most part though...
ward is one of the dirtiest fighters in boxing. i have been one of his biggest fans for damn near a decade now. headbutts, holding, elbows / forearms, and now low blows.
doesn't mean he's not a great fighter
doesn't mean he didn't beat kovalev up in the second fight. it means he fights dirty. always has. he's not evander holyfield, but he's not alexis arguello, either.
But would he have beat Kovalev without all the dirty stuff? Would his whole career be the same at all? How would he perform outside of the US as a pro?
What your saying really doesn't make a whole lot of sense considering that kinda protected star treatment only occurs when someone is a cash machine, like Michael Jordan in the 90's or I could even agree with the case of Mayweather. But Ward ?
Ward is a poor money maker, so why give him the Michael Jordan treatment ?
I find it a arduous task to give credence to that theory.
Not being a great money making cash cow is probably why Andre Ward fights the majority of his fights on west coast. Yes. Andre will go to England to fight Tony Bellow but thats only because its a relatively safe fight for him; he's in a different class than Bellow.
There were low blows and Kovalev should've been given a recuperating time but I think that even if he was given that time, he was still done but that's a separate topic and the "woulda" or "coulda" and "shoulda" happened or been done is irrelevant; referre needs to call it like it is.
Ironic that a guy nick named "Krusher" didn't respond in kind by keeping Andre Ward in check by hitting low back but I think part of that is the advice he got from his "yes men" trainers and the reactions of both John David Jackson and Don Turner after the fight are quite telling. I think that Kovalev should've fired all of them when it came out that JDJ had considered changing camps. Nevertheless the problem is also with Kovalev if we are to go by Abel Sanchez when he has stated that Kovalev doesn't listen to trainers.
I'm not surprised that Kovalev looked to referee for help because since the first fight was over, it's been obvious that Kovalev is intimidated and Ward is in his head. The guy railed on and on about being robbed by judges when he should've been focused on changing his game. Should've worked on making Kovalev more stout in the torso and body but it seems they were more concerned with his cardio because the guy looked thin going in to the rematch with the type of body that is begging to be attacked.
No surprise that Carl Froch, who is thick throughout the torso and body was able to adjust and have success against Andre as the fight went on because he was able to absorb that punishment and press the fight.
Don't expect Andre Ward to lose because the guy is an excellent fighter and the guy will only take fights against fighters with obvious weaknesses that he can exploit. Not putting that out there as an insult to Andre but it is what it is.

Decent post, but this last part is reckless chatter, as I don't know anyone active in boxing who has better scalps on their resumes collectively. Maybe Ward is simply so confident that he finds weaknesses where others can't.
Look at Kovalev, not too many if any saw weaknesses or gave Ward a winning chance before Ward fought him, now the blue print has been made.
people just regurgitate this like it is
A: disputed
B: it matters.
yes, ward had kovalev figured out and was the better fighter. looked like a stoppage was likely and that kovalev was tiring. but that doesn't f#cking matter! it doesn't f#cking matter! the fight was stopped on a low blow and a hearing in nevada is going to acknowledge that. i don't expect the decision to be overturned, and the right guy won teh fight, but FFS don't tell me that a blow that clearly as day lands low is not a low blow and expect me to to anyting other than laugh at you when you post on bscene.
It was on the belt. Kovalev was completely crouched over. The fact that idiots can't acknowledge the puff and Ward's glove completely ripped through it without Kovalev showing any impact shock UNTIL the glove as PROVEN touches the top of the belt line. How does the width of Ward's glove cover Hublot letters while also touching the top of the belt line. I challenge the physics to you. You could argue, "Ward's glove slipped upward..." but then that would mean his groin would've been smashed instantly without that pocket folding inward...
Ward's conscience wouldn't even allow him to all out lie about those shots, so he called them "border". But any ref worth his salt would call a fighter on a border shot and warn him to keep them up. That fat bastard Weeks failed miserably.

Border is legal. No warning necessary. You warn on a unintentional low blow.

Then Ward's chef d'oeuvre:
...
Didn't see it as intentional...hmm that's rich. Yet you seem to know the intentions of Ward.
