I agree. They tend to fight clean, even at their peril. For Eastern-Euro boxers, coming up in the amateurs, it is very much frowned upon to hit low; it's considered a very b*tch and unmanly move.
But in pro boxing it's part of the so-called strategy, and it's a bit pathetic that it seems to be somewhat accepted.

Pity that in pro-boxing it became somewhat acceptable. And I fully agree that he should have thrown at least one or a couple shots right back there.

If I was in his situation, I would have thrown several low blows back.

Here is the same shot from HBO angle:

As Ward was coming forward head low and head first, Kovalev jumped backwards and threw a shot towards the body... So this only pic of what seems to be that is actually just an illusion from this angle...

he should have reacted like barrera reacted when ward low blowed him and fell to the canvas crying.

I'm not sure how Barrera or anyone else could prove that he hits low on purpose. I agree Kovalev didn't react right.

Another Keith Idec article, another whinge about Ward's win, and another 'after landing three consecutive blows below Kovalev's belt line' quote.

Keith, some advice. That's your opinion. Stop shoving it down everyone else's throats because you're upset with the result. That's not what I saw. I saw the very last blow land, perhaps, a little bit low. The two proceeding blows were beltline and above.

The last blow that did maybe land low, my argument if I was in Ward's camp would be, Kovalev was doubled over, back to the ropes, not defending himself. Ward could not have accurately thrown with Kov in this position.

You can keep saying it, but you're only trying to convince yourself.

                    Let it go.

If you are Kovalev you freeze, his whole career froze because he took his only style for granted.
Great observation and I'd add that Ward also looked much better at the weight this time around. He looked unsuited and a little heavy last time, but he definitely carried the weight easier this time.
