It's a shame really. Ward is a lot more entertaining at 175 than he was at 168. He is just not a draw. He's not hood enough for the casual black fan base.

Vegas is different from Oracle Arena, if we're being honest about it. For his first two fights in Las Vegas, Ward generated $6m in paid ticket sales.

Andre Ward sold something like 10k paid tickets for both of the Oracle Arena fights shown on HBO (with $700k gates for many of his Oracle Arena fights before that).


The Bay Area turns out for the hometown guy, and he's got a 20k-seat building to grow into.

Roc Nation's Strategy: Get skin in the game as a new boxing promoter, and spend money to do it. Start letting our name resonate in the boxing world.

I find it funny how so many people can be duped into believing that Roc Nation's goal was to turn Ward into a cash cow.

Both of Ward's PPV gates have been publicly disclosed and confirmed by parties independent of Ward's camp, with the same having been done for Ward's big fights at Oracle Arena and, if I'm not mistaken, the Rodriguez fight in SoCal.

Not blockbuster numbers at the gate, but $3.4m and $2.2m (at actual Vegas PPV event prices) are good points to build from.

Golovkin has yet to have a single event where his attendance (actual gate receipts or the number of tickets actually sold) was confirmed by anyone not quoting directly from what Tom Loeffler has told them.

Andre Ward will continue to fight on, with the next fight heading to Vegas either being the Stevenson unification or the "real life Creed" fight with Tony Bellew; any other fight will likely be held at Oracle Arena or Barclays Center (even at 130k PPV, Roc Nation is basically at the point that they're making more money on PPV than what HBO could offer; a move to Showtime/CBS likely keeps Ward from forcing things to PPV).

It seems your reading comprehension is remedial at best. I just told u their strategy initially is to spend money not necessarily make it.

Making money is further down the road, but now their building their brand. Wards continuing to do his part; kicking azz and taking names.

Sometimes u gotta concede to losing a few early battles in order to win the war, but most like yourself and myopic and can't see past what's right in front of them.

... Miguel Cotto's side of the deal got the lion's share of the money from Cotto-Alvarez, so not sure what you're talking about (an event that's been said to have done anywhere from 700k-1m PPV buys, depending on what you believe)

Ward-Kovalev 1 netted at least $5m on PPV, plus almost $3.4m at the gate, before you even start counting international TV/sponsors/merch and other revenues (even if you split the entire pot 50/50 with Main Events, Ward's side cleared $4m-$5m on the event), and Ward-Kovalev II likely puts at least another $5m on their books as well.

Golden Boy Promotions has shown, once again, that all a company needs is one fighter to launch; if Ward unifies the belts and continue to stake his claim as #1 p4p, the sports world continues to turn to him for athlete's perspective on the big fights and his fights, and Ward doesn't turn heel, the money will manifest itself.

Whether the PPV audience comes is up for debate, Ward is positioned to be a live draw if he keeps coming with the good fights

Not talking about Cotto-Canelo, even with Cotto's $16, 17 million per fight for 3 fights deal, that didn't effect the Cotto-Canelo fight revenue. But the Geale fight and then the buyout of the contract where Cotto received free money didn't benefit Roc Nation, no profit made there in those situations.


Andre Ward is going to need another name to make good money compared to a guy like Canelo.

Besides Heavyweight and Stevenson, the only other guy Ward can make good money with is Tony Bellew.

These fights with Kovalev sounds like RNS just broke even with the purses for all of the fighters and all of the payouts on their cards. Ward made good guaranteed money. How much of a profit did RNS make?

The amount of tickets sold a little over 6,000 which was half of the capacity at Mandalay Bay and the 130,000 PPV buys is not a good sign for Ward being a draw in the sport of boxing, unless he fights name guys or at Heavyweight, I don't see Ward being a major draw in boxing.
