Greater fighter: Roy Jones Jr or Floyd Mayweather?

I get your point, but there's no comparison between Oscar and Tito.
Although he was past his best, Oscar was still a top level fighter in 2007. That was a very good win for Floyd.
Roy's win over Tito was completely meaningless. Tito hadn't fought in 3 years, and he couldn't even make the agreed upon C-W of 170 pounds.
Mosley and Cotto were also faded, but they have to be better wins than Roy's wins over Tito and Lacy.
This is a great thread, with so many variables to consider.
What if Floyd had fought 50 times but in the timeframe that Roy did, going up in weight like Roy did, but then burning muscle to go back down in just a few months like Roy did? How would that have affected him?
What if Roy had've been comfortable, just fighting once per year over a prolonged period like Floyd did, without putting his body through as much?
What if Roy had adapted his style to compensate for his age?Last edited by robertzimmerman; 07-01-2017, 02:52 PM.Comment

Nor did DempseyDid you say that DLH, Pac, Mosley, Hernandez and Canelo were all prime? Marquez and Cotto at their best? The rest are not elites. Floyd never fought an elite fighter in their prime.
When you look at prime Jones toy with opponents and his un,arched speed and reflexes its no contest. Roy was never boring, that is for certain.

Great points. Especially the part about fighting once a year and several retirements when things were hot. I forgot all about that.I get your point, but there's no comparison between Oscar and Tito.

If Floyd fights Williams, Marg, Pac and Cotto between 2008-2009, does he make it out unscathed? I don't know.
But what we do know, is Roy fought Toney, Hopkins and Top 10 of all time Virgil Hill when he did.
So many question marks about Floyd, but not that many about prime Roy.
Also, prime for prime, Floyd arguably lost fights to DLH/Castillo, whereas Roy was DQ'd. I don't know what that means, I'll boxingscene decideComment

He wasn't against DLH and Castillo. Prime RJJ never had that problem. It wasn't until after he kicked ass from 154 to heavyweight did he remotely experience what Floyd did against Castillo/DLH in his prime
Also RJJ never retired at the hottest times in his weight class.Comment
