Paulie was just at one of Floyd's gyms visiting him. I guarantee you Mayweather told him to try and up his game so it's not a complete circus.
That would make sense. Efforts futile though. You can't just train a guy who has never boxed before in 2 months to box one of the best defensive fighters in the world. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Mayweather gives away a few rounds just to make it interesting.

Besides, it's common knowledge that Floyd respects Paulie, and Paulie idolizes Floyd. There's no way Paulie's there to do anything but either expose McGregor or try to up his game.

Floyd knows that getting schooled by a bum in Chris Van Heerden makes it a harder sell, so he's asking someone who has skill to give it a shot so that McGregor doesn't look like a total joke in there.
      Fair enough.

They must be using him so conor doesn't get knocked out in sparring.

Str8 up doe... The only chance McGregor has in this fight (ZERO) is his awkward/made up switching style. A traditional boxer like Paulie can ruin that and get McNugget beat down even worse.

Paulie is going to come out of the sparring session and praise conor in public

The fight can only go one of two ways: Mayweather puts on a Gatti performance, or Mayweather carries McGregor the 12.

McGregor gasses inside of 4 so I don't see his cardio getting improved from anything he's doing with Paulie.

I also don't see Floyd being patient enough if he gases halfway through the fight.

McGregor's ONLY chance is to land a lucky punch by the 3rd round. If we see a Paulie "He's pretty good!" interview, we'll know the fix is in.

He probably wants to bring him to camp because of the advice that he will give him, not because of the tough sparring sessions he cannot provide.. He should be calling Amir Khan and Erislandy Lara for the Speed and Reflex Factors.

Given McGregor's complete lack of pro boxing experience, Paulie should actually be able to give McGregor good work in the gym from sparring to strategy and techniques. As far as speed and reflexes are concerned, how will McGregor be able to improve to the point where he has even a remote chance of beating Mayweather? Even with a fast, busy boxer like Khan or a slick counter puncher with boxing IQ like Lara, it would be unlikely that McGregor would be able to learn and improve enough in a short period of time to be able to challenge on an elite level.
