How come all these people who think they're "woke" are actually brain-dead!? Russia is one of the most repressive governments on earth. Those who oppose the regime are murdered in the shadows, Crimean activists are imprisoned, and they've recently outlawed & criminalized a specific denomination of Christianity, the Jehovah's Witnesses. Jehovah's Witnesses, really!?! But since this is a boxing forum, not a political one, I'll mention the state-sponsored doping and tampering scandal during the Sochi Olympics. Go ask Crimean Tartars if Russia is "moving toward freedom". Ask ****sexuals in Chechnya, a federal subject of Russia, where they are being forced into concentration camps. I could go on and on, but I'm sure that the 'woke' people, sleepwalking through life, won't bother listening.

The stoppage was horrific. Ward landed several low blows and when you are hurt to the body you go down and kova didnt so he actually wasnt that hurtComment

If you compare the Russia's democracy pre fall of the wall til now, and American's level of freedom and protection from tyrannical government during the same time period, you lose this argument terribly.
They moved toward freedom, and we have moved away from it.
If you want to narrow the time frame and look at the last 20 years, yes, Russia has started to go the wrong direction again.
Compared to Americans losing their freedoms though, we have fallen much further, and much faster in the last 20 years thanks to bush 41/43 and *****.

As far as ****sexuals go, Islam has THE worst treatment of gays and women worldwide, and they are the ones trying to bring sharia law to the west. It's not a matter of comparison. All your arguments in favor of Russia are equivalent to pointing fingers at everyone else, or outright disregarding of facts. I tell you that doping is state sponsored in Russia, you tell me that EVERYONE does it. I tell you that ****sexuals are persecuted within Russian territory, you blame Islam, and call it fake news. You can believe whatever foolishness you want, and we can debate all day, but it doesn't change the fact that this is a boxing forum, and Kovalev showed a one-dimensional skill-set & poor stamina in both fights against Ward. This fight was comparable, in many ways, to Joe Louis' rematch victory over Max Schmeling before the start of WW2. Among the non-political similarities is the fact that both fights were stopped on 'controversial' body blows.Comment
