I can agree with that regarding LHW. Adonis does need to fight someone. I just always rank the lineal champ #1. I however always pegged Stevenson to beat Kov.I hold him pound for pound second and until Adonis raises his level of opposition he's no.2 until then, Adonis needs wins over guys like Beterbiev and Gvodzyk or however he hell his name is spelt to be held in as high esteem as Kovalev imo.
What has Adonis done in his time with that belt ?
Kovalev isn't getting his due on this site for those two performances against Ward where he ran him equal for the most part of each bout. He has major conditioning issues and he's not as mentally strong as Ward who of course isn't getting his fair share of kudos for his wins.
This site really is pathetic.
Yes, the conditioning is his Achilles heel. (i am tempted to make a meldonium joke). He needs to wotk on defense when his opponent gets inside. However, he did IMO win the 1st fight and was doing well (although fading and getting his ass kicked the last 2 rds) against ward , who IMO is the best in the sport.
I may not like Kov, but to rank him outside top 5 p4p is unfair.Comment

I believe this is the case more than not in high level fights where guys are accused of "quitting".
You can argue about any fight how much a guy quit vs his best wasn't good enough doe I suppose, but if you are coming up with way more guys quitting vs their best not being good enough I can only assume you to be a chickenhawk who's had few real fights or even competitive situations in your life.
We obviously disagree.Comment

I think Brook and Kov can still be part of some entertaining fights, so I haven't written them off. Brook showed a lot of grit and had some legit eye injuries that would be a show-stopper for 99% of fighters, so no shame in his tapping out.
I actually have more respect for a guy like Duran or Walters who quit when they know they just can't win. They say f**k it and own their quitting, fight another day. As opposed to dudes like Hopkins who fake low-blows and fouls (Calzaghe/Jones) and try to get their opponent DQ'd (or fake their own injuries like he did with Dawson) because they know they can't win. That's a b***h move right there.Comment

Great comment-Was warming to Walters, but the quit forever killed it for me.
-Stopped liking Brook when he sat on the title for 2 years.
-I was a fan of Kovalev's boxing and still am. I was never a big fan of the man and have even less respect for him now. All his excuses from the 1st fight were proven to be BS and then he tried to find more excuses. If you're The Krusher, then act like it.

I can dig that. Quitting impulsively probably no better than flopping around for 5 minutes for a break. It's actually why I stopped watching basketball haha, silly fouls, flops, breaks in the game, time outs, commercials...it was natural to gravitate towards boxing where it's 36 minutes of no bull**** for the most part....sometimes.I think Brook and Kov can still be part of some entertaining fights, so I haven't written them off. That's very novel of you to compare your life experiences to that of Kovalev sharing a ring with the best. Yes he quit, so what ? He was beaten by the better man who clearly picked up where he left off last time. Ain't no shame, only you appear to have found some and believe he's deserving of the criticism, I don't men trying to con which I guess he was, but to me it was a face saving exercise. His career is that of earning the most and if him trying to salvage a situation better serves his career later down the line I grasp that only I ain't one of his fan boys saying he didn't quit which clearly to me his actions were 'I quit'. He matched Ward for close to seven rounds and came up trumps that's that, his performance was no disgrace and if anything he won me over with his performance, not so much with his actions after the fight was called but as I said I understand them, those fights though he only grossed an average of forty percent of what Ward grossed were extremely lucrative for him I understand why he'd want a rematch and especially when having a mic thrust in his face immediately to seize that opportunity.I believe this is the case more than not in high level fights where guys are accused of "quitting".

You rate Adonis higher than I do, on what basis you'd have to explain to me.I can agree with that regarding LHW. Adonis does need to fight someone. I just always rank the lineal champ #1. I however always pegged Stevenson to beat Kov.

Kovalev for me couldn't fight at the pace Ward was setting, he gassed and couldn't take the body work as he couldn't in the first fight. His conditioning isn't the only issue, I mean obviously he doesn't have that extra gear Ward does but it's the mental aspect too, Ward simply outhustled him and I believe Hunter plays a major factor in it, telling Ward look at what in front of and capitalise, Ward in course sees what Hunter is seeing and executes perfectly, hence the whispering as not to take away from Ward. Verg is the silent hero in all this.
Ward for me is also the best in the sport, against Stevenson he'd take away his advantages and systematically break him down as he has all his other opponents.
For me I like to rank lineal the highest but in circumstances that generally doesn't always equate to the best in the division, Ward and Adonis for example and Canelo and GGG, Ward and GGG are clearly a level above and fought at a level above both of those guys. I can't credit Canelo for the level of competition he's fought at since Cotto, GGG hasn't fought a murderers row but everyone he has he's been convincing against with the Jacobs being an exception, bad style match up for GGG there shame Canelo fights nothing like Jacobs otherwise he wouldn't be due the biggest beat down of his career by a long stretch.Comment
