what? At the start of the fight Weeks specifically told the crying russian that a punch to the "K" on the front of his trunks would be a legal blow and identified that area as the "belt line."
As the video shows, ward hit him right on the "K"Comment

both fighters fought dirty, it was ward who could capitalize his advantage more
if only kovalev could learn to fight inside...Comment

It's marquis of queensbury rules. When you win with those low blows it's not legitimate. Ward just keeps winning though. He is that good even though he probably lost the first fight. He never looks silky smooth like a Mayweather but is effective. Not the most attractive fighter to watch as in box-office attraction but highly skilled.Comment

Kov's game didn't change because you can't reinvent yourself in 7 months, especially at the age of 34. Ward has built his careet on being able to fight any way, which is why most acknowledged that he was going to be better at making adjustments. Kov hasn't.
With that being said, people are only looking at the end. Kov bent over earlier in the fight from clean body shots. He was looking for a way out and Weeks gave it to him. Back to the drawing board Kov. Ward is just levels above. If he wasn't hurt in the first fight, the 2nd may not have been necessary.Comment

The question is, why wasn't Kovalev better? His inside game still sucks, and his stamina didn't look any better. Honestly, Kovalev didn't look impressive in the Chilemba fight either! If they can't add an inside game to Kovalev's (still impressive) right hand, he's done! Other fighters already have the blueprint!Comment

I agree he shouldn't have stopped the fight, but he was observing Kovelev for about 30 sec before the stop because he was not fighting back or defending his self. If the fight wasn't stopped at that point Ward was going to tee off on his head.Comment

I'm just wondering when they chose Weeks as the ref did they think about his style. He's known to let a lot of stuff fly in the ring. He doesnt bail fighters out. Seems bogus to complain now.
He should address why he kept looking over for help and why he didn't throw punches for the last 45 seconds of the fight.Comment
