He has avoided major challenges, whether you think it is his fault or not and at least now, finally, it seems that he will face a decent test.

While I also agree that Saunders is somewhat irrelevant now, the WBO belt is very relevant for someone wishing to become undisputed champion at middleweight. You can be sure that if Golovkin and Canelo don't have a rematch, both fighters will be chasing that WBO belt, so whoever has it will be in for a major payday. So until he loses that title he is not totally irrelevant.

    what rubbish

GGG offered Saunders 1.5mil, then he walked to fight Wade

Golovkin has shown little/no interest in Saunders

Saunders then watched Kell Brook make 4-5mil +PPV

you are falling for the hype/bullshht

let's agree to disagree and leave it there

Like who has he lost to that weren't as good as Saunders? Lemieux lost to GGG of course but surely GGG is better than Saunders.

His 2nd other loss was to Joachim Alcine, at least as good or better than Saunders; in fact he's a former WBA Middleweight Champion. Even here, Lemieux was leading early in the fight, scoring multiple power punches to Alcine's head, but after giving it all trying to KO Alcine early on, Lemieux had nothing left in the late rounds. One judge had the fight even 114-114 while the other two gave Alcine a wider margin. Still, it was very close and even the TV announcer on that fight said he would not have liked to have to be a judge to score the fight. Maybe Alcine outboxed him but it only started to look like that when Lemieux got exhausted.

David 1st loss was to Marco Rubio, arguably not as good as Saunders, but again here, David's condition was the deciding factor-- he gassed out, he did not get outboxed. He got KO'ed, but before he swung himself to exhaustion he was soundly beating Rubio.

      Rubio, Alcine.....

you are nuts if you think that Lemieux is elite

he is the very definition of one-dimensional, and limited

The proof is in what they walked away with, I didn't make up Kell Brook's % of the uk ppv and gate. GGG made 5 guaranteed and Kell got between 4-5. -totalsporttek, reddit.

Golovkin only made 2.5 to Jacob's 1.75 so yeah, he's not demanding 75% of the purse, he's actually reasonable. Saunders doesn't draw anyone but wanted to make more that Golovkin.

I do not believe for 1 second that 1.5mil is the best offer they could make Saunders

        that is rubbish

and they made NO counter-offer whatsoever

a cynic would swear that they name-dropped Saunders, and then made him a low-ball offer that they knew would be refused..... so that they could select a hand-picked look-good opponent

again, NO counter-offer whatsoever, they packed their bags and walked

and they happily passed on Saunders in Kazakhstan, in favor of the money with Canelo..... so Golovkin has had plenty of opportunities to get Saunders in the ring

Saunders inactivity, is mostly his fault..... but Golovkin passing on TWO opportunities to fight Saunders, is NOT his fault

and yet here we are, crying at Saunders, because of a decision that Golovkin made ..... just like what golovkin-fans did when GGG failed to make a fight with Ward, Cotto, Lara, Canelo (TWICE)

that is LITERALLY as bad as blaming Mayweather because Pacquiao refused to undertake random blood tests

A lot of heart that kid has never been knocked out and Lemieux hurt his hand so he survived to the final bell. But nobody said he was winning rounds or threatening to win the fight Lemieux won by wide decision by all judges. Lemieux performance against Reyes >>>> Saunders against unknown bum Akavov who isn't even on Boxrec's top 30 middleweight rankings. Saunders stunk up the joint and had to sweat out a decision that could of gone either way. Saunders literally got the scare of a lifetime against a bum. Lemieux hurt his hand and still basically won every round.
Understood, but you gotta watch the round 9 and 10 again

I never said I thought David Lemieux was an elite boxer--in fact, I don't think I've ever heard anyone ever say he was elite. But he is a very good boxer with a devastating left-hook (Max Kellerman, who has seen his share of left hooks said it was: "The scariest left hook KO I've ever seen."

Lemieux is a well-ranked boxer and a great deal of fun to watch--On a good day he can take out up to 98% of current fighters his weight---even with a bad hand he might take out 80%. Let's not forget too that he's only 25-26 years old. He's got close to 10 years left in his career to improve his skills. If he keeps on the right path and maybe one day gets an elite trainer---who knows?

Lemieux has been a "Champion" too early... Can't take that away from him though... The Saunders vs Akavov BJS gets blown out of the ring early... Depends which BJS shows up....
