Comments Thread For: Do We Believe Andre Ward Can Beat Anthony Joshua?

By Corey Erdman - After Saturday's TKO victory over Sergey Kovalev, it's inarguable that Andre Ward is the best fighter in the sport, pound for pound. However you interpret the meaning of "pound for pound," Ward satisfies every requirement. Do you simply base it on achievement? The Oakland native cleared out the 168-pound division in tournament format, before hopping up to 175 to outpoint and then stop the most fearsome man in that division too...

Lol, Mcgregor has more chance against Floyd than Ward has against Joshua.

At least Mcgregor has a 0.1% chance of landing a hail mary, Ward literally has 0 chance.

Damn I love Ward, team SOG all the way but Joshua was taking Wlad's power and fighting back, Joshua can a end a man's life with those uppercuts and Ward fights on the inside, he'll eventually get caught by a right uppercut

Go ahead Virgil and Andre, let's see how that works for you.

Kovalev had a 1.5 inch reach advantage on Ward and Ward had trouble with Kovalev's reach with the jab, etc...

Joshua has an 11 inch reach advantage and a 6 inch height advantage.

Ward would have to put on 30 or more pounds which will affect his mobility and slow down his punching speed most likely if Ward weighs 205 pounds or more.

It would be a slaughter of the highest proportions of what Joshua would do to Ward.

But go ahead Virgil, go ahead Andre. Let's see how that works out for you.

Yeah, if Ward tries throwing those body shots inside on Joshua can you imagine Joshua unloading one of those uppercuts on Ward.

Ward's head would go flying in the air and land on someone's lap in the nose bleed section way up.

SMH, imagine Ward trying to wrestle and smother Joshua? Ward would be getting pushed and thrown around like a rag doll.

I'm pretty sure Virgil and Ward won't actually ever step foot in the ring against a Joshua or Wilder. I think they were just high on adrenaline and feeling themselves Saturday night. They know better.

If memory serves me right, Ward actually beat Clemente Russo at the 2004 Olympics at 178, and Russo subsequently beat Deontay Wilder at the 2008 Olympics at 200.

Speaking of Wilder, he's seem more likely a good foe. Or maybe he can make a trip to new Zealand.

One thing though I'm sure ward has sparred plenty of big guys, probably since he was little.

Big thing with guys like Charles, Tunney and RJJ is they were pure outboxers. Or in Charles' case he could be a pure outboxer if he chose to be. If they didnt want to engage with their opponent they had the athleticism and speed to stay away for an entire fight if they wanted. Billy Conn also who outboxed Louis for 13rnds had exceptional outfighting ability, even then one mistake and he was wiped out.

Ward isnt that type of fighter. If the fight moved inside then Joshua would throw Ward around like a ragdoll. He did it to Klitschko so there is no doubt he would do it to Ward.

I think Ward understands this from the interviews Ive seen. He says its just "Virg being Virg, bigging up his guy"

& I have never heard something more ******ed than Virgil Smack addict Hunter in 25+ yrs of following boxing. But if he wants to destroy the only fighter that he uses to con others into seeking his services then
