As a matter of fact, I dont think I've ever seen a fight stopped on body punching where the fighter didnt go down.

Everyone can go back and forth about whether those shots were low or not. What cannot be disputed is the fact that Tony Weeks stopped that fight way too early.
I don't understand why people keep saying Ward got the TKO due to low blows. To have that mindset you have to totally disregard the rest of the round. Kovalev was in the position he was in at the time of the stoppage becauae he was badly hurt and taking a savage beating. Its not like they were standing in the middle of the ring in normal action and Sergey was fresh and clear eyes. Kovalev got hit in the nutz, and Weeks jumped in immediately. Weeks had himself in position to stop the fight because Kovalev appeared done.

Ward expressed this in a different form in sincere fashion at the PFPC. Everyone should have been b*tching about Weeks but instead they attacked Ward. Crybabies.

LOL you would double up two if you got hit 3 times below the belt.

Kov was not out on his feet. He was punching back, slipping and was still aware. Then that 3 hooks to the nuts finished him off and Weeks doesn't ****ing see ****.

But how many times does every AA fighter have to suffer from previous fans hatred for Mayweather?

This is really all it's about now a days.

Which I've seen referees rule TKOs in that situation several times. The ref is the closest spectator to the action. For eight rounds, he had a front row seat to every debilitating body shot Kovalev took. He heard every groan. He saw Kovalev give himself up on several occasions. He saw Kovalev crying about legal punches. He saw Ward send Kovalev's brain into orbit with that right hand. And he saw Kovalev double over, giving himself up yet again, and sit on the middle rope after a legal shot. Then make no effort to protect himself or fight back while Ward landed the final two shots which were low. Kovalev gave every indication throughout the fight that he couldn't deal with the physicality of what Ward was bringing. And when you have a guy that's looked like he was ready to quit from about the third or fourth round on. I can easily see why Weeks maybe jumped the gun and waved it off a little early. Everyone is b1tching about the final two blows the Ward landed, which were low. The correct refereeing move would have been to rule Kovalev down after the first one landed, which was legal. Because was clearly behind held up by the ropes. Had Weeks done that, the final two would have never landes. Because its not like Ward was throwing a rapid fire combination. He basically wound up and swung as hard as he could. So Weeks could have easily stepped in and ruled Kovalev down.
I agree with everything you said except Ward landing 2 low blows. I thought they were clean...

Also, I don't think Kovalev was ever down so he shouldn't have been ruled down unless the ropes were holding him up. What Kov should've done was take a knee so he can get a standing 8 count to recoup.

But I'm telling you, had he done that he would've took about 5 years off his career because he was done no which way you cut it.

I agree that stopping the fight wasn't Wards fault but the repeated low blows was. Weeks was terrible last night.

Kovalev didn't double over until he gets hit square in the nuts. This isn't rocket science. Weeks should have caught the fouls and gave up to 5 mins to recover like the rules say, not jump in and stop the fight.

One of the worst stoppages I've ever seen. It's annoying. Boxing needs instant replay.

The stoppage was lame, but kovalev was definitely wilting

He's my favourite fighter, and I'm telling you. He was getting strongly discouraged late in the fight.

If anything, the stoppage took away from ward, because I believe he would have really finished much more decisively

Kovalev was rocked with the big right hand, tiring, frustrated with the rough house tactics and overplayed with the low blows by leaning down

The referee was a bit gun ho on the stoppage and kovalev is a massive puncher and that does take away his chance or turning it around

But from what I saw, i did not like his body language

Only the last punch was below the belt line. Not sure where you get 3 hooks to the nuts when even the low blow didn't hit him in the nuts (if anything it hit just above the d*ck). It's like you and others are pretending that Kovalev wasn't already doubling over from legal body shots.
