Kovalev was sitting on the ropes.

Tony Weeks should have let the fight continue so that Ward could finish kicking Kovalev's ass conclusively.

If there is no standing 8 then just begin a 10 count. Early stoppages suck and rob fans of a definitive ending or even of seeing a Castillo-Corrales style turnaround.
Why? He hasn't been knocked down, and hasn't taken a knee. That's not how boxing works.

Why not be honest and post this in the OP? ^^^^

The ropes were holding him up.

But the most telling this is Kovalev didn't protest the stoppage. He quit!
            There it is

            He stayed on the floor.

            He quit.

He was about to do a Kell Brook had Weeks not intervened.

Staying folded over like a beach towel isn't how boxing works either.

Did you see how he stayed down after the fight was stopped?

              Dude was DONE.

They weren't. He was doubled over until Weeks called it off. That's when he sat on them.

It was the same way he was bending over when he was protesting low blows earlier. He was getting beat up though that round.

He was not getting up to let that happen.

Ward's right hand stance was just too much.

                      That blew Kovalev's mind.
