What I don't understand is why this doesn't come up more often:
Conor McGregor was granted a boxing licence by the California State Athletic Commission last week and immediately talk restarted about a potential super-fight against Floyd Mayweather.
'The Notorious' claimed that Mayweather's camp was scrambling after learning of his decision to switch to boxing while UFC president Dana White is adamant that a McGregor vs. Mayweather match-up would be an impossibility.
And while Mayweather's team have distanced themselves from the realisation of the cross-sport bout, De La Hoya is definitely embracing the notion.
The head of Golden Boy Promotions insists that he would welcome the foundation of a partnership with McGregor and claims to have the perfect opponent for the Irishman.
"If Conor is serious about fighting - first of all, I would love to talk to him and promote him," De La Hoya told FightHub. "I mean, imagine Conor McGregor and Golden Boy coming together.
"But the only fight I would love to see, and this is the one that makes the most sense, that would be the most exciting, that would be a guaranteed knockout, is against Canelo Alvarez. And they're in the same weight class. So it makes all the sense in the world. Imagine. 154lbs... 160lbs actually. It would be at 160lbs."
Canelo Alvarez, the 48-1-1 fighter, has previously indicated a willingness to welcome McGregor to the squared circle.
"If he wants to try out boxing, then anytime he wants. If he wants to come over to this side of the world and try boxing, anytime he wants, to see that it's not as easy as he thinks," Alvarez told FightHub in September.
Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya says that he’d love to promote Conor McGregor and that if he’s serious about boxing then a fight with Canelo Alvarez is the only one to make.
So it was OK if it was Canelo vs. McGregor, but it's not OK when it's Mayweather vs. McGregor? Oscar wanted to promote this fight, but now it's a "circus?" Oscar is getting what he deserves, and all the people who said Floyd was a pu**y who was scared to fight McGregor (Skip Bayless, etc.) are now getting what they want!
I went to that video where the canelo qoute came from,& it was nothing like what your qouting, radio raheem was asking him "since conor McGregor has been talking all kinds of trash & saying your a cherrypicker & bum, what would u have to say to him, would u ever fight him", to which canelo answers in spanish with horrible mistranslation as usual "whenever he wants to decide to come to this side of the world,& wants to try out boxing then ill be here to show him its not as easy as he thinks". I seriously doubt hed ever fight McGregor, regardless of what pantyhose says but if he did id say **** him too,I never said I like when fighters I watch cherrypick either but everyone assumes I do just because I criticize mayweather. I still think the only way this can hurt GGG-Canelo is if the fight is a dud. If fight is a good fight, or if Mayweather puts on a show and dominates McGregor like he did against Canelo, that's going to get more fans interested in boxing.
If he puts on the kind of performance he did against Pacquiao, a clear victory but a very safety first fighting approach, people will be turned off.Comment

I don't even think it affected the Ward vs Kovalev fight.
Fans who wanted to see the fight will see the fight no matter what.
Fans who are not interested don't care.
It has nothing to do with anything.
It was promoted haphazardly in the first place.
The two fighters contributed little to the promotion.
They stayed in their little corners nursing their sensitive emotional wounds.
They can only blame themselves.Comment

Forget what Canelo said! What Oscar said is clear as day, and needs no translation! Oscar wanted to make Canelo vs. McGregor! Oscar is a hypocrite! Even Arum offered to make Pacquiao vs. McGregor! If Arum or ODLH made a McGregor fight, HBO would be onboard and the narrative would be different! The narrative would be: Floyd was scared of McGregor but Canelo (or Pacquiao) stepped up to the challenge! I don't think Floyd should've taken the fight, but if he had NOT, he would be hearing how he was afraid, a coward, etc., so the public is getting what they want! Win, lose, or draw, Floyd will be the highest paid athlete for 2017!Comment

Anybody that thinks Mayweather-McGregor won't have a drastic affect on the Canelo-GGG bottomline is lying to themselves. Also, anybody that is mad at Floyd, or somehow see this as Floyd ****ting on boxing needs to get yo life. Its not Floyd's fault people wanna pay to see him. Floyd doesn't owe boxing, or boxing fans ****. The only thing Floyd owes you is to show up when you buy a ticket or order a PPV, and perform to the best of his ability that night. That's all you've paid for. And that's all he owes you.Comment
