What I don't understand is why this doesn't come up more often:

Conor McGregor was granted a boxing licence by the California State Athletic Commission last week and immediately talk restarted about a potential super-fight against Floyd Mayweather.

'The Notorious' claimed that Mayweather's camp was scrambling after learning of his decision to switch to boxing while UFC president Dana White is adamant that a McGregor vs. Mayweather match-up would be an impossibility.

And while Mayweather's team have distanced themselves from the realisation of the cross-sport bout, De La Hoya is definitely embracing the notion.

The head of Golden Boy Promotions insists that he would welcome the foundation of a partnership with McGregor and claims to have the perfect opponent for the Irishman.

"If Conor is serious about fighting - first of all, I would love to talk to him and promote him," De La Hoya told FightHub. "I mean, imagine Conor McGregor and Golden Boy coming together.

"But the only fight I would love to see, and this is the one that makes the most sense, that would be the most exciting, that would be a guaranteed knockout, is against Canelo Alvarez. And they're in the same weight class. So it makes all the sense in the world. Imagine. 154lbs... 160lbs actually. It would be at 160lbs."

Canelo Alvarez, the 48-1-1 fighter, has previously indicated a willingness to welcome McGregor to the squared circle.

"If he wants to try out boxing, then anytime he wants. If he wants to come over to this side of the world and try boxing, anytime he wants, to see that it's not as easy as he thinks," Alvarez told FightHub in September.

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya says that he’d love to promote Conor McGregor and that if he’s serious about boxing then a fight with Canelo Alvarez is the only one to make.

So it was OK if it was Canelo vs. McGregor, but it's not OK when it's Mayweather vs. McGregor? Oscar wanted to promote this fight, but now it's a "circus?" Oscar is getting what he deserves, and all the people who said Floyd was a pu**y who was scared to fight McGregor (Skip Bayless, etc.) are now getting what they want!

Are they on the same date Alvarez's and Mac's?
If not, what's all the fuss about?
If they're on the same date do you really prefer watching the circus instead of the mouth watering Canelo vs Golovkin if you are a boxing fan? Come on. I can always watch the circus a day later.
      Much ado about nothing.

In the last couple of days I've heard more about Canelo vs GGG on ESPN TV and Radio than I had since the fight was signed.
They're talking about that fight because they're talking about the Mayweather/Coner fight.

If they keep talking about GGG and Canelo some of those casuals might get curious and tune in September.

Yup the Gregor fight will make Canelo/GGG even bigger.
MMA fans would be reminded of it. GGG/Alvarez will be hyuuge GLOBALLY. Mark my word.

LOL, Void fans spend well over a year defending and praising Canelo for not fighting Golovkin and being "smart bidnissman" for his cherrypicked mismatches and now suddenly it's "well deyz shudza gibs us dat fyte a year ago mayne."

Absolutely pathetic, pitiful excuse for a fanbase. Glorified Beliebers.

yeah that is exactly my point.... If he had just not gone out of his way to bash this it would have been better for him.... He turned off a lot of ufc fans also by bashing the fight..... I dont care for this fight but i wanna see it... Im sure canelo and oscar will watch this fight also....

this bitter queen has no shame... Thats why is such a head case because he is always bitter about other peoples success.... Mayweather never bashes him when he puts on mismatch ppv after ppv like angulo, smith, khan, chavez.... As soon as mayweather does something this guy is always infront of a camera bashing him and calling him bad for boxing.... He tried to destroy pbc and al haymon also but haymons lawyers exposed this lying queen in court..... This is payback... HBO is nervous about this fight overshadowing the ggg fight.... Lampley has been all over youtube boxing channels saying this fight sucks and that it should not happen before canela vs ggg..... if this was on HBO ppv jim crow lampley would be shaking his pomp pomps for this fight...

HBO should be showing Ward/Kovalev on regular HBO...not PPV

...but HBO can't swing the deal.

Even as a Floyd fan and a person who doesn't care for Oscar, he'll get my money. I'll put up 20 dollars with a few friends for the May/Mcgregor fight but Canelo/GGG I'll pay full price for. To me it's not even debatable which fight I would be willing to buy. I still believe Canelo/GGG will do really well.

Cotto needs to just retire and give it up. His fight stands no chance against the circus that's on the same day.
