Comments Thread For: Jackson: Ward Wants Inside Fight? I Told Kovalev To Break His Ribs!

Less than a week remains, before Andre "SOG" Ward (31-0, 15 KOs) and Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) collide for a second time to set the record straight. Last November at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Ward got off the floor in the second round to box his way to a very close twelve round unanimous decision over Kovalev to capture the WBA, IBF, WBO light heavyweight titles. All three judges scored it 114-113 in Ward's favor.

He cant fight on the inside....its how he lost in the first place. His best chance is to keep Ward on the outside & in the middle of the ring.

he missed a lot of opportunities to go to wards body in the 1st fight and that hurt him. After that kd he was head hunting for the next 10rds and didnt really throw downstairs until like the 11th. it'll be interesting if he lands some good shots to wards body and takes his legs away.

Kovalev needs leverage to go to the body he did try to go to the body but he was getting counter with jabs by ward so he stop using it the little things that people don't see he cant fight on the inside period

******ity from Jackson here...but what else should we expect at this point

Kovalev should stick to the jab and feints. It worked very well in fight one. Trying to doing other things cost him the fight. If Jackson is telling him to adopt this approach, he'll take a decisive loss this time around

This sounds like what they said for the first fight. I think Kov said he was going to break his hands if he tried to hold, even though Kov did more holding than many people anticipated. Kov isn't an inside fighter. Let's not pretend that he is. For JDJ to downplay the damage that Ward does on the inside is silly. Hopefully fighting on the inside isn't their gameplan. It won't work.

Ward is there to be hit. Barrera hit him a lot. Just go to the body as much as possible with overhand rights from mid distance.
Ward is the one who needs to get on the inside, feint and rush in. He did the right thing last fight which led to Kovalev tying up and grabbing - and when he is doing that for half the round then thats 90 seconds he's not throwing punches.
I hope Jackson has worked on a plan to stop Ward bull-rushing in. As others have said, step back and uppercuts.

Kov did just as much, if not more, holding than Ward. The difference was Ward tied up Kov's hands, Kov had Ward in a headlock, leaving Ward WITH FREE HANDS! No excuse for not being prepared for Ward's in-fighting. What Ward did was nothing new!
