Feel terrible for all parties involved when something like that happens. Especially the children of the wounded boxer - can't imagine being a young kid seeing the man who you visualize as the toughest and best man in the world laying helplessly unable to even respond at all..

I really think Mike Perez took what happened to Mago particularly bad.. heard he looked good in his comeback, but before, in the aftermath, he looked completely gun-shy and unmotivated. Nothing like the fast, strong, hard punching beast we saw prior.
Eubank Sr is another example of that.

That man was actually a legit puncher. You'd never realise it looking at his record at then end of his career if you hadn't seen him fight. He carried all sorts of demons with him after the Watson fight.

George Groves even eluded to it in his fight with Chudinov. He wanted the ref to jump in even sooner. Groves is seems like a lad with a good heart but can't help but feel he is more open to becoming unstuck in that sort a fight that goes to a dark place because of what's happened to him, imo. I'd question someone's character if it had no impact.

I am so glad Groves won a version of the world title though.

Neither were in a coma to my recollection.

Now they like to reduce swelling to the brain which never produces a good result.
Zack Padilla got the clot after sparring against Shane Mosley

Although he didn't win the fight, there was a fighter Angelo Jacopucci in a tough fight, lost by 12th round KO vs Alan Minter, went out to dinner after, then felt unwell, went to hospital, slipped into a coma and died a few months later. So not the same as winning the fight of course but shows the human body can still function for some time after damage is inflicted before it takes full effect, especially in the case of well-trained athletes. Most are not like that of course. Some other info here: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/f...h-1324914.html

            That's why he retired.
            Yes that is so.
During a sparring session with Shane Mosley, Padilla was hit with a hard punch which aggravated a head injury from his last fight
The head injury from the LaPorte fight. Back at the time the story was just that he suffered a head injury in the Laporte fight. The Mosley part was brought to light later.

I can see that point. If you ever saw that fight it was a fun affair.
