Yes, there was a Japanese (if not mistaken) that won a recognized world title and suffered a brain clot and died after a few days.

Collapsed after winning by decision.

There was a fighter named Zack Padilla. Very exiting fighter that threw ton of punches a round. Won the WBO Lt.welterweight title but in a defense against Juan Laporte he suffered head trauma although he won and was forced to retire. Joe Mesi suffered a similar set back in his win over Jirov. Neither were in a coma to my recollection.

Now they like to reduce swelling to the brain which never produces a good result.

So did the fighters who suffer head trauma - they didn't get put in induced comas to reduce swelling? I wonder if they had to undergo any type of immediate surgery post-fight?

I wonder if they had suffered brain-swellage at all? Or just head trauma in general but not to that extent.

In the context of your last sentence, did you mean that putting them in induced comas in attempt to relieve swelling is bad, or just that brain swellage never ends well?

Yeah without going over all the stats and cases, It seems that it is definitely the exception to the rule.

Feel terrible for all parties involved when something like that happens. Especially the children of the wounded boxer - can't imagine being a young kid seeing the man who you visualize as the toughest and best man in the world laying helplessly unable to even respond at all..

I really think Mike Perez took what happened to Mago particularly bad.. heard he looked good in his comeback, but before, in the aftermath, he looked completely gun-shy and unmotivated. Nothing like the fast, strong, hard punching beast we saw prior.
