Ward is absolutely right here but it goes more than one way. You have so called "purists" who will automatically assume that any offensively gifted fighter has no defense/skill. Other people will say that anyone who makes guys miss is a "runner"

So you haven't realized the shift in the boxing scoring system - where defense is now rewarded even more so than offense and no one ever gets a point deducted or DQ'd for clinching?

Wlad's clinching was excessive. Some times he would initiate a clinch rather than throw a punch. You can't even compare the two. There's clinching at some point in every fight. That's why you hear refs yell "Break" 3 or four times a fight. If the ref give you a warning and you keep doing he should take a point. If clinching and headbutting was the only things Ward had in his skillset he would have lost years ago.

Why would Ward have lost years ago if he's been doing it his entire career? Ward has been dropped by bums early in his career when he didn't do it as much - I'll agree with that.

If you knew there'd be a referee who would give a warning on Clinch 1 and continue to deduct points and DQ upon more clinching - would you pick Ward to win the fight?

Certain Boxing "fans" don't when they don't like a particular fighter, for ones they like they are all for their favorite fighter's style. These dudes are just into Boxing for the blood sport, they never did respect the "sweet science". Doesn't help that HBO, ESPN and the like promote the bloodsport aspects over everything else.

Actually I would pick him to win the fight. Ward can box. He may not have much power but he's accurate and has good timing. I see his clinching as a defense mechanism when he's in close and vulnerable to taking a punch. That has nothing to with his offensive output. Also, he's just one of those fighters whose style causes a lot of head clashes. His style isn't eye catching but it works for him and wins fights.

U better hope Ward fights that way bcuz if he lets his hands go 3 rd Kovalev takes a knee this time. Kov is lucky boxing is only 12rds. Ward will continue rd 13. Lets hope Kov is in as good a shape he claims bcuz Ward gonna work that soft mid section.

I think is quite simple...Lets get 2 rooms of boxing fans and people you will like to convert,one will be shown andre ward vs(anybody) fight and the other subjects will watch barrera vs morales(any number) or chavez jr vs martinez,or mayweather vs mosley or if you reaaaally wanna prove a point corrales vs castillo 1..Now once the fights are over,do a survey of just one simple question..How much will you pay for a ticket to watch the winner of the fight you just watched...There is your answer..I watched most of Ward fights ,but everytime I seen them with people,their attention can only be kept as a maximum 10 minutes and they get up or use their phones...
