is Kovalev wrestling? no... he's executing head control. completely legal. doesn't stall action.

Andre Ward HOLDS , shoots singles and doubles over an extended period. He's wrestling. that is illegal. that is what sets him apart.

Pushing someones head down is illegal.

Why do you think refs give warnings for it?

it's perfectly legal to do head control in boxing or else Lennox Lewis would have a DQ Loss for directing Michael Grant's head into his uppercut.

    The guy is a moron.

Good luck. He's.... "special". Best to just give him a sucker and park him in front of some cartoons. Having a dialogue is an exercise in frustration.

Both are illegal. Refs are lenient with pushing the head down to avoid headbutts if the opponent is coming inside with their head up....kinda like if a guy lands low while his head is being pulled down. Most refs say nothing at all about excessive clinching tho.

It is illegal. A lot of Russian/Soviet style guys do it because they are taught not to bend their heads down and worry about headbutts. They consider it bad sportsmanship and react accordingly.

The way Klitschko did it to Povetkin was cause for reprimand and the ref should have done something about it. Same thing with the way Khan did it to Collazo - these guys simply do not like their opponents to get close and they should have been penalised for clearly employing such a strategy.

However, the way Kovalev did it to Ward was simply to defend himself from headbutts because Ward likes to rush in head-first like a fucking billygoat. It was a smart way to negate Ward's dirty tactics and it worked. It prevented Ward from mauling and wrestling, and kept things as more of a stand up boxing match where Kovalev showed himself superior. He should employ the same tactics in the rematch if he wants to have the same success.

Otherwise he may end up looking like this:

But shooting for a double leg is legal? Kovalev is not pushing his head down. Ward is going for a tackle and putting his head down.

The tone was set by Kovalev, every time Ward got in close he'd push his head down. When you know that's going to happen every time you start reaching out to support the weight on your neck.

These are just from the first round.

But that is not what this thread is about. It's about Headshots not knowing the basic rules of boxing.

It's illegal but it's almost always the response to an opponent lunging in head-first to clinch. Difficult to punish such a thing without verbally ordering both fighters to change their style/strategy.
