I just think with these particular styles, Ward is walking a tightrope somewhat. I think what he did in the first fight was amazing - to get up from the tough spot he found himself in and not only that he had the will to get back in the fight against a formidable champion was unbelievable.
I think Ward will be sharper in this fight and Kovalev might actually be sloppier, but that might be what he needs to do. Don't get me wrong I thought Kovalev fought a great fight last time, he out-boxed Ward from the outside, I was surprised, because he was not only accurate, but he didn't allow Ward many openings. I think this time he needs to take more risks, and I think he will. Not reckless - but just a little bit more free with his hands - I think it will get him countered and hit more but ultimately it will be what wins him the fight because I think by committing that bit more he will do more damage and break Ward down.
He could fight the exact same fight to be honest and get the decision this time, it was either way last fight, but I think he will force the issue. There really isn't much between these guys, I just think Kovalev is in his prime and Ward is not. If Kovalev doesn't have a big lead by round 8 though, and hasn't damaged Ward at all, he's in trouble.

Ward has been entertaining plenty of times in his career and at a high level too. The Froch fight was entertaining and that was against an elite level champion. The Abraham fight, the Green fight, Edison Miranda, all highly entertaining fights. There are probably more fights where Ward has been entertaining than not actually if you take his career as a whole.
He has been in some boring fights and some messy fights for sure, but he is a defensive minded fighter so you are always going to get that, but he has been in very few unwatchable fights. Even the Edwin Rodriguez fight, Sullivan Barrera, these are hardly bad fights. To be honest, since Ward made his comeback against Smith, he looks like a fighter who is carrying injuries and is past it physically, there is a stark difference if you watch the fights since Smith and the fights pre 2014. So he has definitely lost some dynamism in his movement which has made him that much more defensive and 'boring' as you call it.

Plus the always present possibility that Kov might end the night with one shot kept me on my toes.
