    I get that.

But if you're Mayweather, moving up in weight, have a history of hand problems and are pursuing even bigger fish and paydays at even higher weights (ODLH, SSM, etc.), then 2005, when both of them held belts at the weight is the perfect time.

And Top Rank didn't want it at that time. Period.

Well, we can definitely agree to disagree on this one.

IMO, the full 154 pound version of Cotto that Mayweather actually fought had the best chance of beating him. The size helped Cotto more than any other weight would have. Cotto was coming off 3 dominating wins at 154 and at no other point in his career would he have fared as well against Mayweather.

At 140, Cotto wouldn't have finished a fight with Mayweather, TKO inside of 10. Even when Cotto moved to 147 it seemed he was too big and had trouble making the limit of 147 (much less 144 which almost killed him).

Yes, at 154, while Floyd was rumored to have the flu...floyd beats him worse at 147...at 140 he stops him.

No version of cotto would of beaten floyd. Especially 2006 that wasn't even cotto's prime.
