Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto To Work With Golden Boy on Kamegai Fight

Former four division world champion Miguel Angel Cotto will be working in partnership with Golden Boy Promotions for his bout with Japanese junior middleweight contender Yoshihiro Kamegai, according to Miguel Cotto Promotions Executive Hector Soto. As reported a few days ago, Cotto parted ways with his promoter of the last few years, Roc Nation Sports. Cotto signed a three fight agreement with them in early 2015, and there was one fight remaining on the deal - with Kamegai.

I'm pretty sure Cotto is going to be realistic now on pay for Kamegai. I don't think he's going to look for $17 million. That was with Roc Nation and that contract for $50 million on 3 fights.

I'm sure Cotto will just take what he can get for Kamegai and look to a big fight next where he can cash out as much as he can. At this point I think Cotto just wants to get in the ring again after a super long layoff and then look for a big fight in the fall.

... "Kamegai was scheduled to be the last of the three fights that Cotto was going to do under Roc Nation, but they couldn't reach an agreement on the money. Their deal guaranteed Cotto a minimum purse of $10 million per fight - which Roc Nation felt was too high for that fight..."

        ^^^ No shit?!!!

Interesting because it's well documented of Cotto signing a $50 million dollar 3 fight deal. $10 million a fight would be $30 million. I wonder what the buyout amount was they gave Cotto. Anyway.....

I can understand both sides, Cotto just wants what he signed up for and Roc Nation couldn't take that hit. They've been losing money signing these guys to big money contracts through fault of their own with amateur promoting and management.

I'm sure Cotto will be more realistic with earnings now for a Kamegai fight in working with Golden Boy. Lol, **** he better or else he's never getting back in the ring. But I'm thinking that Cotto will take what he can get now against Kamegai and look to a big fight to cash out at the end of the year.

... I guess that RN-Cotto deal just sank, as he failed to take any fight during a year and a half and the PPV market dramatically fell.

I'm guessing that contract buyout may have been half of what he was owed? 5 million

                  Maybe 2 to 3 million.

Lol, Cotto just got payed. Pretty much stole money from Roc Nation.

With that buyout that he was payed and taking the best he can get from Golden Boy for Kamegai, I'm sure he's thinking he's good now. Just fight Kamegai and get a big name next for the end of the year.
