Knock Cotto out, Knock Trout out, Lara would be difficult but he would eventually track him down and stop him.

I'm a little on the fence with Lara. Because if statue walking Angulo dropped him then Golovkin can as well. But he looked better against Canelo, but he pretty much just ran.

So yeah, my prediction would be Golovkin over Lara by either late round stoppage or by decision because Lara just would be running scared, fighting scared, he would be afraid of getting hit with the power shots so he would be running like he did against Canelo.

How would Canelo have done against Lemieux, Jacobs, Brook, etc?

How do you think Canelo would have done against Winky Wright back then?

How do you think Canelo would have done against Bernard Hopkins back then?

I might of humored the topic more like you and maxi did if it was straight up. I opened the thread with an open mind, but realized he was just trying to use it as some abstract form of bashing GGG (Larry style), so I lost interest.

Anyways, good to see some non-fanboys posting as well.

Those are interesting matchups. We've seen Canelo take on two really good southpaw boxers at 154 in Trout and Lara. Definitely a distance fight with Wright. It is a razor thin match to me. I think Canelo may struggle with Winky's work rate and physical strength inside, but he would have a slight edge in terms of boxing skills, speed, and clean punching. I could easily see it go either way, but I think Canelo could pull off a hard fought, close decision much in the way Vargas did but perhaps a little cleaner.

It would be a dogfight with GGG and Wright. I think Wright could do really well boxing GGG in spots, but the question is if GGG could crack him with constant pressure, high work-rate and power. Wright is battle-tested, but even he never fought as dynamic of an offense as GGG would bring at middle. Trinidad was on the decline and above his best weight, and no one else on his resume comes close in terms of power and offensive ability.

I would pick Hopkins over Canelo at 160. Hopkins was a force at 160 back then, and I can't see Canelo getting an edge on him or dealing with his advantages in size and ring IQ. To be honest, you have to either be one of the best middleweights of all time or just have a really good style matchup to have beaten Hopkins at his best.

I'd take Hopkins over GGG atm as well, but GGG would have the size, strength, boxing IQ and power to be in the fight. It is possible his power and pressure could get some work done (see the Echols fight), and GGG has more subtle nuance to his game to challenge a crafty guy like Hopkins. I think we need to see more of GGG at the top level though.

I saw your picks as well, and I could see what you're saying, although I think I don't give the old guys quite as much credit as you do.

I'm not sure exactly what that means, but KO, KO, KO or decision.

              Nice!

Yeah I think because Golovkin is naturally more aggressive he would pose more of a challenge to Winky, maybe even beat Winky.

It's that damn cage guard that Wright had in his prime years and countering off of that which made him really good.

Since Canelo doesn't like to attack or is as aggressive. I think Winky would just counter the crap out of Canelo behind his cage guard. Lol

I can see a frustrated Canelo in the later rounds, Lol. As a matter of fact I think I'll make a thread on this match up. Lol

And I agree, comparisons can be better made after we see more of the best of Golovkin and Canelo.

Good analysis Mukuro. Good stuff. I definitely value the opinions of objective, realistic non-biased posters. I try to be as realistic and objective as possible. Lol. And I appreciate those that are the same.

Yeah, I see the same problems with Canelo. I think he just punches so clean in spots he might be able to score just enough, but definitely a tough fight for him. On the other hand, GGG comes in with punches from weird angles (switches to southpaw to open up right hooks/throws from above a la Rubio fight) so I think he can crack that guard.

Same here. It is good to be able to talk about fights and boxers without the cheerleading.

He would have like 60 fights by now. Probably would have taken an L, but he'd have a HOF career imo.
