I'm all for this fight as well. The process for making this fight wears me out.

Since Cotto's last fight against Canelo it's been postponement after postponement, name after name, etc.. where now it just wears thin already.

This Cotto-Kamegai fight should be quite easy to make. RNS should have had their ducks in a row when it came to locations and venue, and TV broadcast options. RNS sucks. All that money and they still dont have a clue.

I'm a pretty hardcore Cotto fan. I agree that he has nothing else to prove, but am still disappointed with the fact that he's done nothing since November 2015. He looked good in defeat against a younger, bigger, talented fighter. Since then, his team has done nothing but ***** the bed.

Call me crazy, but I think that if Kirkland began a fight with Cotto the way he started out the first minute or so against Canelo, Cotto could find himself in a lot of trouble. A guy with Canelo's size could weather that kind of storm...but I'm not exactly sure how Cotto would have dealt with that.

Kamegai is durable, but doesn't pose a Kiirkland-style, brute-force threat....which is why I think Kamegai is a much better match-up for Cotto.

I don't mind this fight for the reasons you said. Plus it's not on ppv either

That's true. And being with Ann Wolfe Kirkland would have gave 100% effort.

I wanted to see how Cotto reacted too if Kirkland was able to land some heavy punches or pinned Cotto on the ropes and landed a barrage of punches.

Roach had a plan already in place. I'm sure if that situation rose up Cotto would have grabbed and held Kirkland and went back to the center of the ring after the ref broke them up.

Roach and Cotto's plan was to wear Kirkland out gradually landing body shots but not staying in the pocket for too long to avoid Kirkland's incoming shots.

Kirkland would have eventually got knocked out. Kirkland has a glass jaw. He got knocked out by light punching feather fisted Nobuhiro Ishida.

Kamegai at least has been active and is a good replacement. Kamegai hasn't been knocked out. Cotto has a chance to be the first one to knock Kamegai out. Kamegai was in a fight of the year candidate with Robert Guerrero. And Kamegai knocked out Jesus Soto-Karass, who a lot of people forget knocked out Andre Berto. So all in all, not a bad return fight for Cotto who has been out of the ring for more than a year and a half.

I'm all for it. They just need to finalize the damn thing already.

I'm sure it will be an entertaining fight...but even at this stage, Cotto is on a different level than Guererro or Soto-Karass ever were. This will be a one-sided, methodical beat down.

I remember watching the Kirkland-Ishida fight. At the time, I could not believe my eyes. I think no one was more surprised when Kirkland went down the first time than Ishida.

Yeah, it will be entertaining while it lasts.

I say Cotto wins by the 8th round or so by TKO.

Kamegai is tough, he'll have a few moments here and there. But the skill level and pedigree are vastly different.

With kirkland at least theres a chance of cotto getting clipped and is much bigger than him.... cant say the same for the jap imo
