  • Comments Thread For: Miguel Cotto vs. Yoshihiro Kamegai Could Be Pushed Back To July

Based on the recent information from Puerto Rico, the return of four division world champion Miguel Angel Cotto could very well get pushed back to a date in early July. Cotto has already resumed his training camp in Los Angeles for a fight with Japan's Yoshihiro Kamegai. The fight was being targeted for June 24, possibly at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, but the date is now a little over a month away.

It seems that Kamegai is indeed the opponent. Which I'm fine with.

The other news is that his fight may take place in July now. They still don't have a location for the fight, they still don't have a venue and they still don't have a date for the fight. And lastly they are trying to get a TV deal done with someone.

It's a mess and for the last year or so Cotto's career is starting to resemble a punchline to a joke.

At this point I'm hoping Cotto vs Kamegai is his last fight and a farewell fight. Fighting an over the hill 44 year old Marquez is not the way to go if those are his plans for the fall.

It's starting to get comical, become annoying and a joke the way things have gone with the constant different names being pulled up, constant postponements, rescheduling. I know Kirkland wasn't his fault. But 2016 was full of names, postponements, etc...and it's looking like the same thing is happening in 2017.

RNS Boxing is gonna fold after they get done paying Cotto and Ward their money. They're almost as ****** as PBC with their purses and guarantees.

Miguel Cotto may fight in July

According to new reports, the fight against Japanese boxer Yoshihiro Kamegai will be confirmed in the coming days.

Although there has been desperation in waiting. Miguel Cotto has not let this affect him and since May 1st is training in California under the orders of Freddie Roach and Gavin McMillan.

There are new details about the future of Miguel Cotto, who is in his eighteenth consecutive month of competitive inactivity.

"The home of the next bout and the date of the bout may come out in the next five days," said Cotto's assistant Bryan Perez.

"Between Friday and Tuesday we can have it defined, because the date is approaching," Perez told Primera Hora about the fight against Japanese boxer Yoshihiro Kamegai, who is 27-3-2 with 24 KO's.

The date announced for the bout is June 24th, but Perez said it could possibly change to the first week of July.

"It could be a week or more later in July. It does not necessarily have to be June 24th as had been stated," Perez said.

"We are working to bring Miguel back, which is what we want," he added.

Cotto last fought in November of 2015, in a close loss by unanimous decision to Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.

The 36-year-old had never been inactive for more than 12 months in his career that began in 2001. He had planned to fight in February against James Kirkland but the fight fell through due to an alleged injury suffered by Kirkland.

Since then, the promoter of the Puerto Rican, Roc Nation, has been working to square away their next fight and although the rival is already defined, the contest has not been officially announced because there have been difficulties in the affairs of location and venue as well as finding a television broadcast agreement.

Nevertheless, Cotto has lost no time in preparing and since May 1st is in Los Angeles working again under the orders of boxing coach Freddie Roach, as well as his physical trainer, Gavin McMillan.

"Miguel is training in technical aspects right now, The Japanese fighter is the rival. We do not have the TV or the site yet (of the fight), but it is Kamegai, "Perez said.

Meanwhile, Miguel Cotto Promotions will have contender Angel 'Tito' Acosta, challenge the 108-pound champion of the World Boxing Organization , Komei Tanaka in Nagoya, Japan.

Miguel Cotto Promotions will be represented in Japan by his partner Hector Soto.

Why not trash this fight & make a Vs. Erislandy Lara fight instead...
Put Kamagai on the undercard & promise him a shot at "The American Dream" once he trashes and ends Miguel's career.
