Boxing really is a game of chess, a game of counters - great fighters are always working to offset the subtle tricks of their opponent.
Watching two great fighters try to stay one step ahead of the other is absolute bliss - high hopes for Canelo-GGG.

Watch salido vs llomancheckhoe for a good example of simple shifting + body work and constant pressure. Its why LLoma LOST and is 9-1 despite his crafty footwork and angles. I don't question Lloma boxing talents but I do question his ability to adjust.
Another fight to watch is porter vs Thurman for an example of poor footwork. Shawn Porter would have twice the success if he shifted as he closed the gap instead of leaping in and smothering his own punches. Would have destroyed Thurman.

Not a lost art. you'll catch a lot of fighters doing it to throw a right hook or to get a fighter to lean into a right hook or to trick the jab with a straight left. Now to some of you casuals thinking wtf? You can't throw a right hook in the right handed stance and a left hook in a left handed stance so you switch. If you're fighting a righty you don't expect to defend a hook from that side.
Didn't watch the video but one fighter you'll see that did this very effectively was a younger Mike Tyson.
