Comments Thread For: Nacho: Chavez Jr. Was Afraid To Let His Hands Go on Canelo

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was simply too scared to pull the trigger, according to his Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain. Chavez Jr. was dominated for twelve rounds by his Mexican rival, Saul "Canelo" Alvaerz, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Canelo won every single round on all three of the official scorecards, with identical cards of 120-108.

The pairing was a horrible idea from the beginning.

Chavez Jr. doesn't have a high boxing IQ or defensive skills that Nacho looks for in his fighters.

Chavez Jr. is a brawler by nature and that was his best chance at victory.

If he would have had Robert Garcia or Freddie Roach in his corner he would have had a better chance.

Something was wrong when Jr showed up looking like Neo in the Matrix. He got the blind man sunglasses to hide his google eyes. He wasn't right.

"I asked him to throw punches, simply to throw punches but he was afraid to throw a jab or a certain combination because he knew that three or four punches would come back in return, and those doubts were born in his head real early and they stayed with him for the entire fight."

This is exactly what happened early in the fight he felt those shots from canelo had no answers for he was doing to him and didn't want to let his hands go and get countered. So he went into survival mode. He quit.

He said CANELO didn't hit hard but he was petrified to throw punches against him. Lol. I'm glad Nacho exposed Jr for his nonsense!

                Nacho is right.

Chavez admitted he was worried about being countered.

                it is speed/timing/accuracy

the same thing happens to Floyd opponents

I expect GGG to be hesitant and have trouble committing once he realizes how sharp Canelo is

It felt staged to me he wasn't trying to throw anything and he was getting tagged either way he could of easily let his hands go just felt like he wasn't throwing on purpose.
