You guys are looking too deep into it. Chavez Jr is a goofball. I actually wanted him to win but I thought he was gonna at least put up a fight for cinco de mayo weekend.
I don't think it was fixed. Canelo was too good and Chavez isn't what he used to be which was never that great to begin with. I also think he's probably more gun shy since the fonfara fight.
To me it looked like he knew very early on in the fight he was out of his depth and accepted it and just got through the fight.
I think most people and myself included felt if any fight could motivate him to put 100% into it and really go for broke it was this one but he didn't. Fair enough he was outclasses but he accepted defeat far too easily I think.
What bothered me most was every time they got head to head in close, Kenny Bayless would start yelling at them to watch their heads, and then Chavez would back off.
I think teh weight loss played a major issue and pair that with the shitty game plan nacho had for chavez to just move and move and pop shot canelo when you can and work on the ropes when it presents itself backfired cause chavez got battered to the body and zapped the life out of him so he couldnt get back into the fight no matter how bad he wanted to he just physically wasnt capable to muster up what it took to get it done.
Weight loss hurt him
silly game plan hurt him
nacho and everyone in the corner gave up mid round.
it was strange, i wouldnt completely rule it out. it wasnt as if chavez was opening up and getting tagged with counters which put him in his place; he would get into a position where he could tee off and he didnt throw anything. looked at times like there was a deliberate lack of power in the jab. its strange that the ggg fight was announced immediately after, signed, sealed and delivered. i mean before this fight its not as if chavez was considered a complete bum who had literally zero chance so it seems odd that they would have everything set up to announce it straight away...
So now every fight that doesn't have the result you want is rigged?
Yep. The GGG-Canelo announcement has kept everybody from really laying into this fight like they should. I'm happy the fight got made but I feel like they charged $70 for a fight announcement.
Nothing wrong with that. UFC does it all the time. They put up some trash fight like Jones-OSP then Announce the next card immediately to clear out the stench..works like a charm
Chavez Jr barely throwing any punches & not even trying. Then the WWE-esque announcement after the fight that GGG-Canelo was a done deal before this fight.
If you're a casual fan and you don't know the history of the GGG-Canelo fight and Chavez Jr career, then this would look fishy to you. This is the first Canelo fight since Floyd that a lot of people threw fight parties and made an event around the fight. A lot of people I was around who are casual fans thought this fight was a fix.
Not a good look for the sport to have people coming away thinking that. Another black eye for boxing.
It wasn't rigged in a way that Chavez agreed to lose. It was rigged in a way Oscar and team knew he would lose. Chavez is a guy who arguable lost to Brian Vera and Matt Vanda. He was never any good really. Fringe world level status at best. Combine that with melting him down and he had nothing to give.
