The only thing slipping is Golovkin fans confidence in the guy.

His defence is underrated, when you consider that he is an attacking, seek and destroy fighter. On that front I agree with you that people make too much of his defensive lapses because all fighters of that type will get wet.

But make no mistake, he is there to be hit, and for someone like Canelo, that is a big hindrance. If GGG does fight more carefully and defensive minded, he limits his own offensive game, and makes it into more of a chess match, but that also gives Canelo more breathing space and time to get his combinations off and utilise his hand speed, if GGG goes all out attack, he gives one of the best counter punches in the game openings.

So it will be interesting what approach he takes in general, although I'm sure in different phases he will do both. I just see Canelo busting him up, no matter what he does, I think GGG will accumulate more damage as the fight goes on then Canelo will, who is much more difficult to hit clean. GGG will need to land a big shot that hurts Canelo to turn the fight in his direction, and he might need to do that more than once. The biggest problem with hitting Canelo is when he is in a defensive posture he is actually really difficult to hit clean, especially to the body, he is a really small target, especially for these taller fighters.
You've thought it out pretty well. You make some good points about Canelo being a small target. It's funny because I see Canelo doing better at first and Golovkin doing better down the stretch. I think that long jab is going to be very effective from the outside for Golovkin, and even more effective than it was against Jacobs considering the reach advantage. I think that Canelo is a respectable puncher but Golovkin doesn't have to rush in if he can outjab Canelo as I think he will. That's a very hard jab. I think boxing at your own pace against Chavez is alot different to the pressure that Golovkin puts on, and I think he's good middleweight chin will prevail against Canelo's respectable power. At least in September we get a chance to see how it all pans out.

Nice post! Just imagine what the next 4 months on this site will be like though with all the "triple duck" and "****-nelo" comments being fired from all sides? September 16th can't come soon enough.

I think a lot of people see it the way you see it, but I am going to go against the grain on this one. I just see Canelo taking over because he is the superior technician and I strongly feel that way, I think his stamina is better above 154, and I think his speed and power will freeze Golovkin.

Golovkin's best weapon in this fight, and it can win him the fight is that jab. It is the punch that I think works for him at the higher levels, it kept him in the fight against Jacobs, and he won rounds off it. I agree, it is as good as a power punch. I just have a feeling that Canelo will be ready for it and he has fought a fighter with a world class jab in Cotto who is naturally left handed and he countered that jab after the 2nd round. Golovkin's jab is more powerful and he has a height and reach advantage so it will be a factor in the fight, lets see how much of a factor.

I strongly feel Canelo has been constantly underestimated throughout his career, I think a lot of his learning curve has been under the spotlight and that puts him in a position to be criticised. He does have a weakness around boxers and movers, and that has also been exposed, but I stress at the elite level.

Overall he has been underrated by a lot of the inner boxing fraternity and I think this fight will be the culmination of that. After this fight - if he wins the way that I think he will, most likely he will get overrated, and I will be sitting here arguing with all the people who are overrating him.

The problem here is that you don't understand what the word excuse means.

Someone confidently betting you that Golovkin would win then saying after the fight that he lost because his gloves were the wrong color would be an excuse.

Someone saying they no longer like Golovkin's chances in future fights because he's looked usually flat and tired from the opening bell in his recent wins is not an "excuse". That isn't what the word means.

This transcends the GGG thing. Anyone who makes any observations or analysis about a fighter on here is told they're "making excuses". It keeps the conversations ultra-dumb.

You need to look up the meaning of the word excuse.

This really has nothing to do with Golovkin and more to do with the generally pathetic urban reading level on this forum.

You likely use 'excuse' to refer to any observation or choice you don't agree with. IE if a woman says she doesn't want to date you because she's not attracted to you, you announce with a toothless mouth and crossed eyes that you're "sick and tired of all these fancy excuses".

No, a clearly stated opinion about the outcome of an event prior to that event taking place based on clearly stated observations is not an "excuse".

People admitting they've lowered their confidence levels in a boxer based on his recent performances is not an "excuses". Nobody can have a serious boxing conversation or analyze where a fighter is in their career on here because the helmet-clad "excuses" guy arrives within minutes and stinks the place up.

Golovkin eat punches and can't defend an uppercut, if he doesn't get Canelo out of there early he's in for a world of trouble.
Yea...he's at his absolute physical peak, just like every 35 year old. Everyone should be thankful that he's shown signs of slippage, or else we wouldn't be getting this fight. It may not be the same ggg of 4-5 years ago, but he's still good enough to beat canelo.

Nope. Impartial observers such as Teddy Atlas and James Smith think he's slipping. Just youtube it.
