Why the 4-year hiatus? Do you know?

He's had more title defenses than anyone not named Joe Louis.

And even though Wladimir was a little more skillfull. Vitali was the better fighter. And I mean fighter in the true sense of the word "fighter". Though Wladimir showed us the fight he has inside of him this past Saturday. But I still say Vitali was the better fighter.

Knee injury prevented him from training for a year and he went into politics, came back 4 yrs later and took his title back from sam peter

Vitali looked the much harder and tougher guy to beat, he was going to beat Lewis before an unfortunate cut happened, he would have gone on to beating Lewis if the Doctor didn't step in and that was a prime version of Lewis he was toying about with, so Vitali it is for me.

Im getting a little bored of Vitali was better fighter but Wlad was better champion comments.
Who will likely go down as top ten greatest heavyweight? Wlad most likely. So Wlads greater.

Vitali was the better fighter based on what? beating up bums his whole career and losing in a great effort to Lewis?

Wlad is techinically better, resume craps on Vitali's and was a longer reigning champion.

There was a time when Vitali was the better fighter but that ended a long time ago. By 06/07, Wlad was well on his way to being the complete, modern heavy. By 2010 he was one of the very best fighters in the business and arguably, p4p, second only to the likes of Pac, May and Martinez. I don't think Vitali was ever at that level. Yes he hit hard and yes he was quite durable but he was a lot slower than Wlad, had less punch variety and his footwork pretty much ******.

Wlad also held more titles for a combined, longer period of time. So all in all, it's Wlad.

Better champion: Wlad because of the 10 year reign.

Better fighter: Vitali because he had more variety in his offense.

Wlad found one style and perfected it. His size and reach was a huge advantage over his competition. The last few years (minus the Joshua fight) Wlad was unwatchable.
