Comments Thread For: WBC Prez Has No Interest in a War of Words With Canelo

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has refused to engage Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in a war of words. BoxingScene.com reported on Tuesday that Canelo (48-1-1, 34 KOs) has no interest in the WBC being involved in a potential September fight with middleweight king Gennady "GGG" Golovkin.

I'm inclined more to believe the WBC prez more than Canelita.
Canelita's statements pretty much cover up why he rejected the fight with Triple Gift and they are pretty convenient for him.

i dont care about all the drama or why it started but I think its a good move imo, we dont need all these belts and fighters shouldnt be pressured into paying a percentage for a belt when theirs 10 other versions.

That didn't seem too genuine at all... Canelo's story seems to line up a little better. Either way, I don't really care. It was silly for the WBC to try to make this fight for a belt. Part of the problem with boxing is all this useless belts. Anyway, if the GGG-Canelo fight happens later this year, cool. If not, whatever. There is plenty of other things happening in boxing... Besides, the best MW fight has already happened earlier this year, in my opinion.

Wow, this is embarrassing for all parties involved. The WBC and Canelo.

The WBC kissed Canelos ass all his career, they had him fighting for their title all his career, they even arranged a fight between Canelo and Matthew Hatton for the vacant WBC 154lb Title.

Canelo got only to fight Cotto for the belt because he agreed to fight GGG next. GGG has been mandatory for the WBC since 2014. The WBC even said months before Canelo fought Cotto that they have a specific time frame after the fight to negotiate with GGG and Canelo accepted and agreed to fight for the WBC Belt.

Now Canelo thinks he is bigger than the sport and its rules.. this arrogant coward, creating his own weightclasses, ducking fighters, facing Amir Khan, Liam Smith and now unranked Mr Burgerking instead of GGG.

WBC created this mess. They broke rules created all kinds of exceptions when Floyd won the WBC at 154 in a catch weight fight. That drama went on for 2 years with them afraid to enforce the WBC mandatory because the moment they tried to tell Floyd what weight and who to fight or silly purse bids he was going to do what canelo did and vacate the belt. Then with canelo they pulled a 180 tried to impose a short window while he was in court with GGG trying to use that as leverage to force a purse bid. Canelo was not going to give into GGG terms and pay him a split he don't deserve just because of these WBC idiots. This is a business first and foremost. It was bad business for a star like canelo to just give away money and lbs to the B side just because the WBC says so.

After that mess WBC tried to insert themselves into a chavez fight that had nothing to do with them by creating some bogus belt. And it blew up in their face. Glad canelo told them crooks to phuk off.

No need for more belts. If we had one World Champion It would be Great, and if they fought the top contender it would be even better. Too many belts, that's why some WORLD Champions get payed peanuts, they are worthless.

Canelo fears to accidentally take another GGG belt.

The WBC has no interest in making wilder fight a Mando either. When Povetkin popped, they could have made #2 his mando, Steveirn. But instead of doing what the IBF did with GGG making that guy that was 18-0 his mando cause the number one guy was injured, they allow wilder to go wild and fight anybody he fancies. 2 and a half years belt holder and not one mandatory defence she has had. The WBC is a disgrace to boxing and the other organisations
