Comments Thread For: Joshua Does Not Expect Historical Rep Like Ali, Foreman, Holmes

ANTHONY JOSHUA doubts his name will ever be etched in heavyweight folklore alongside the likes of Muhammad Ali and George Foreman - no matter what he achieves. The IBF and now WBA, IBO heavyweight champion has, of course, got an awful long way to go before he could be considered a great and it is far from a foregone conclusion that he ever will.

Much respect young champ. Too bad he's in the social media era with massive amounts of mindless hate and criticism.

He has the potential to join the great ones, just keep working and fighting the best and he'll get there.

I like what he said about Murray too. Murray honestly never reached the heights on the world stage that Joshua is heading towards (his era has been brutally competitive), but he's definitely deserving of the #1 ranking. Followed his career for years, really good guy. Grab a few majors along the way.

He should expect to be in the same conversation as Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson! Kid has a great future ahead of him!

At least hes well aware of the nonsensical GREATS status one would have to achieve today ,one would literally have to go 50 and 0 with 50 k.o s just to get noticed or considered a ATG in todays short attention span .

Ironically hes already achieved a land mark win in only 19 fights like no one ever has ,and may set a k.o record ? To be a ATG one must produce a significant accomplishment in HIS era and hes already done that !

Exactly what I was thinking. If he runs the table on his four contenders (Parker, Wilder, Ortiz, and Fury) he surpasses Tyson, Holyfield, and Lewis in my book. I don't recall any of them beating a guy as good as the one he just beat. They all fought each other really late. There's just so much nostalgia around them and that era that's disconnected from reality imo.

I think Joshua is definitely on the road to stardom, but I think Tyson's destruction of Michael Spinks was more impressive than Joshua's victory over Wlad because Spinks was much younger (32) and undefeated! Not to mention, Mike was only 22 years old!

Spinks was a beast, but he was a light heavyweight who beat a Holmes that wasn't known for power. I honestly though that was a lopsided affair. Which is why Spinks didn't want to leave the locker room lol

Please tell me you really dont think any version of Wlad would be an easier fight for Tyson in 1988 than sub 200 pound Spinks who had no power next to the 6'6 Klitchko and who wouldn't be intimidated?

I think Joshua is in a good position. He is a major star in England. That star status only grows if he beats fury. Then he has Wilder.

The winner of Wilder/joshua-assuming both are undefeated and it crowns an undisputed HWT champ, becomes the clear face of the sport and likely as huge a star as Lewis or Holyfield were.
